The drum beats everytime he hits the drum and lights up. The lights are nice bright colors. I love that the drum is soft all over because he starting to put things in his mouth. I love that it plays in English and Spanish and plays nice music. He's a little young for some of the features (bilingual) so its a toy that can grow with him, which is great. Sound settings are good (as long as it stays firmly planted on the ground - the speaker faces down and can be loud in either setting when picked up) - regardless, they won't drive you crazy. Very engaging and when my kid is playing with it you can tell he is learning. I love how this has English and Spanish since my family is bilingual, to us its very important that we have our children learn both languages and to get this in on a daily basis makes it easy with this toy. The Softness and amazing features makes this great for all little ones. I also decided to gift one to a family friend because I know there little boy would love it as much as my little girls does.
