I know that you can attach the flimsy original track sections to it, but that is like putting Volkswagen parts on an S class Mercedes-Benz. But with some flaws</span> <span itemprop="description">[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Hot Wheels ID Smart Track Kit for free in exchange for my honest opinion. Even in its large box, this toy is impressive - the kids were in such suspense waiting to play. The packaging is super sturdy to prevent damage to the electronics and it takes quite awhile to dismantle the whole thing, in addition to building and setting it up. If you have impatient kids, keep that in mind so *you* don't go out of your mind while building. To be fair, I'm not sure if our instructions got misplaced or if they were missing from the set, but my husband (who is usually a whiz at setup &amp; building) had a tough time winging it, even with google and youtube and whatever guides he found off the interwebs. Note also that the app, which is a key component of the Smart Track toy, is a whopping 824 MB, not exactly tiny, and was incompatible with my son's old Samsung Galaxy Tab. We instead played on my husband's phone, which was not ideal bc the experience was sorely limited by the small screen. Unfortunately, we also found the app clunky to use and not that well designed, so hopefully it will get updated as Hot Wheels ID expands. Nevertheless, this is an exciting toy and my kids loved how the booster made the cars whip around the track! The concept is so cool: little chip-embedded race cars that look just like the ones I grew up with, but can do much more, like complete different track challenges and record racing history such as speed and lifetime mileage. And serve as an avatar to be played in the app! You can play games in the virtual world using the &quot;same&quot; car that you played with on the track - same stats, same body detailing. That said, I should also mention that the speed at which the cars sometimes flew off the tracks made me nervous. The first time it happened I was grateful none of us happened to be sitting in the trajectory bc the car crashed so hard into our cabinet it left a big scratch! I know it's marked age 8+, but even then I don't think I would rest easy letting them play totally unsupervised due to the speed. At full price, I'm not sure the Smart Track system will grab a huge following. It's a really really cool toy, but the high cost plus the safety issue def makes me hesitate. The track itself, I would say, was easier to put together than the classic Hotwheels tracks because the USB ports were much bigger than the thin attachment pieces and sliver of space to insert them onto the classic tracks. Even my 1 year old was able to put a couple pieces together (not securely, but he got them together fairly easily for his age). My 3 year old was able to set up a track configuration of her own in no time at all and was able to use the pump all on her own. I have not had a chance to give her the opportunity to really attempt the app along with the track itself, but in all honesty, I doubt she would be able to since she is just starting to really get extended screen time with application games. My Oldest son is 7 years old and was able to put a track together quickly then get the general idea of the coinciding app. The app was a little bit tricky, but I&rsquo;m sure over time we will get very comfortable with it both with the track and the games within it on its own. We were especially impressed how it displayed the track course we created in no time at all. My son loves playing out the races and upgrading his different cars. The fact that the track works with both android and IOS software is very convenient and easy to find/download too. The track is incredibly sturdy and (as I said before) easy to assemble right out of the box. It is also pretty bulky considering the electronic components and took a considerable amount of space in our temporary 5th wheel trailer living arrangement (while awaiting a home to become available to move into). As a parent, I sort of wish the packaging was designed in such a way that it could be used for storing the track easily (for kids) when not in use and not to mention just to cut out the element of waste, but I understand that it needed to be sorted in a way that it wouldn&rsquo;t get jostled around too much. We were able to find a reusable plastic tub to use as protective storage for it and had some fun with the outer packaging before we even dived into playing with the track itself (it&rsquo;s funny how kids always have just as much fun with packaging as the toys themselves). One of the attachment pieces that came with the track has a rubber material dead end for doing a straight drag race or stopping point. It also has other attachments to add classic tracks for extended fun. The Bluetooth piece is easy to remove and charge like the average cell phone. I like the fact that a small piece comes apart rather than the whole pump and Bluetooth piece combined. The booster pump pieces is just as the instructions describe it&hellip; &ldquo;Insanely fast!&rdquo; I don&rsquo;t know what 900mph translates to this scale, but it&rsquo;s no joke. We were all not only very impressed at how this booster pump was easy to use, but also how well and fast it worked! While I could see the potential for a car to jet out of it and hurt someone; as long as you do not redline (or pump too fast) it should not be too much of an issue. It works much better than most of the battery-operated boosters I have had the pleasure of using over the years. It is a new concept for us to see the hotwheels cars to actually have small microchips of some sort inside of them for the track, app and Bluetooth to scan and record which car is racing each time it crosses the Bluetooth feature. It then records the races within the app and game on your personal mobile device. This particular track came with 2 of these cars which seem very durable, but not sure how well the chip will hold up to 3 kids playing with them over time. I can&rsquo;t imagine them being damaged by anything more than a toddler throwing one in the toilet or other source of water; so hopefully they will hold up for a long time. Overall, this is a magnificent modern take on the Hotwheels collection. I loved the fact that it was able to connect so effortlessly to my iPad and remained connected without an issues. The track itself is easy to put together and play. You have the option to play with or without a tablet or iPad, but using one adds to the fun. My kids played with the race track for hours and there was never a dull moment. Just by itself, without the app, it's a thrill to race the cars around the track, seeing how fast we can get them to go. With the app, we are able to complete fun challenges that are at times pretty difficult to do. There are so many different challenges that the fun goes on and on. My son and my husband have played for hours, trying to complete challenges. My daughter likes to just make the cars go around and around.
