Had to remove the pieces and fit them loosely in to my car. Don't know if this would affect a return process. Wish toys r us would list box sizes for store pickup items so I could plan ahead and know for sure. Assembly was fine. You do need two people and a drill. If you have these things, it goes quickly and painlessly (less than an hour). My kids (2 and 5) LOVE it and spend lots of time imagining and pretending. The grill and water feature are the favorite spots. The grill cover is pretty flimsy but they have only removed it once in about 3-4 weeks of frequent play. Yes, the grill cover opens in to the house (they're supposed to stand outside it to play) but they can still use it standing inside. It's not a big deal. My tall 5 year old fits inside easily and nothing is too big for my 2 year old. It's a perfect size. It was the perfect fit for our family - appeals to toddlers and older kids and is not gender specific. They did accept the on-line price once I showed it to them on my phone. Came home, put it together...sort of. The door piece was bent. Which was one of two pieces to lay the foundation for the rest of the house. From there, nothing quite lined up or tightened down in any groves. It's up, but now I have to take it down because it's just not working for us. When I spend the money, I want it to work. The grill cover is terrible as is one long screw that because of the angle is terrible...even with a small screw driver it's tough to put pressure on it (I even started a hole with a smaller screw). Once up, even though crooked, kids love it and I love being able to see them play. This is the 2nd Step 2 product that we purchased and both now have been missing items, VERY disappointed in Step 2 and Toys-r-Us customer service.
