So when I got my first one of bb-8 I was slightly confused at first on what it did. It reminds me of a bobblehead with the extras of lights and sounds. There are no directions. You simply push its head and it activates 20 + lights and sounds of the iconic bb-8 of star wars. Small body and big head so it is kind of like the mini me version for young kids. It states four plus age group. My 4-year-old played with it and was quickly distracted with another toy. What caught his attention was the lights and sounds but he expected it to do more. At his age he wanted it to move and correspond with his own actions. It doesn't move. Now the top head swivels at a small degree angle. Not by itself though. It's more just like a bobblehead with lights and sound. My child didn't play with it as much after the first initial surprise of something new. The material is sturdy.
