It does take batteries for lights and sounds, but is so cool looking and boys really like it plus they are huge Star wars fans. You get 18 pieces all together. There is small parts so dont allow little ones to play with. The lgs move and there are compartments that come open. You have to look under the body there is 2 screws you unscrew to get to battery compartment. The toy itself feels huge and is a great collection for any star wars fan. It has the lights and different types of sound which add to the character itself, like from starting of it, to the walking, going into sleep mode or during an action mode.&nbsp; The head of the character moves up/down and sideways, comes with the interior lights and also you can slide in and out the compartments. It can dance as well :-) with its fully movable legs.&nbsp; You can get a wholesome experience from this squadron and enjoy to the fullest - especially if you are the Star Wars fans.The packaging is also nice and appealing and sure it won't last long on the shelves.&nbsp; It does not feel the series 2 but rather a series 3 upgrade from last version, they have for sure upgrade their game in here. He likes it and is fascinated by what the box shows. We are having a hard time finding where the batteries go to make it light up as the box shows. Looking all over the toy I don't think it lights up or batteries go in. Ill have to see where he put the instructions and try and figure it out. Otherwise its a nice to to show off.
