I have always used colored pencils for this type of project but these sheets are slick so you have to use sharpies which wasn&rsquo;t a problem for the age group doing the project. I recommend cutting around your project before you spend to much time coloring it in because I had a few pieces that would split when I tried cutting it. Beside that small issue (which may have just been user error) the paper worked fine. You draw on a clear, thicker-plastic sheet with permanent ink (we used Sharpies) and bake them in the oven at 325&deg;F for 1 to 3 minutes to shrink them. You do not loose detail when you bake them, surprisingly. You can cut the plastic into different sizes and can use different crafting scissors to achieve a border other than a straight line. The possibilities with Shrinky Dinks are endless; you can make earrings, necklaces, picture frames, photos, etc with Shrinky Dinks. Both of my daughters 5 and 10, love making these. If you do want to cut the picture, do it before you bake it. Once you bake the plastic, it shrinks and becomes thicker which makes it impossible to cut the picture once its been baked. Overall, I love these as it allows me to use my creativity. We made magnets, bookmarks, and key chains. These are so much sturdier than even cardstock and your child&rsquo;s sweet art can be preserved forever. They make perfect mother&rsquo;s/father&rsquo;s day/teacher gifts! My son loved putting the light on in the oven and watching them shrink down in size. He wanted to do it again and again! GOOD TO KNOW: These Shrinky Dinks are made of sleek, clear, plastic and you can only color them with permanent markers, and acrylic paints. Some brands have a textured surface to use other art mediums, like colored pencils. Make sure you use a hole punch before you draw and shrink your design; once it is baked, it will be much too hard to pierce. I could not help but make my own designs because. These brought me back to my childhood and I had so much fun using them with my son! I absolutely loved them!
