The design of these nipples allow her to get the right amount of food and help get rid of the gassiness she was getting from all the air trapped in other nipples. I also really appreciate that the nipple is designed to work well for breastfed babies, as I intend to primarily breastfeed while also offering bottle feedings occasionally. My baby took a bit of practice to get used to the bottle, but I doubt this was specifically related to the nipple. He does typically have some gas following breastfeeding, but did seem to have less after the bottle with the newborn nipple. While we may not use this flow rate for too long, I think it is a valuable tool to introduce bottle feeding and a great option to have for babies that may feed too quickly. I thought the nipple was easy to clean and sterilize. I also love that the nipples can be used on the various sizes of Avent bottles as well as their glass bottles. We had a variety of bottles and nipples on hand, including the Philips Avent Natural Newborn Nipple. We found it very helpful to have a variety of nipples to choose from at the beginning to find the one that our son liked the best. He has taken to the Philips Avent Natural Newborn Nipple very easily, making bottle feeding easy for my husband (as well as my husband's preferred bottle and nipple). He is easily able to switch between the 0 and 1 flow rate as well as a variety of nipples. We haven't had any problems with colic or gas, which could be related to using these nipples. Luckily I tried the Philips Avent Natural bottle with the first flow nipple and the newborn flow nipple- and she started feeding from the bottle again! After trying the 2 different flow rates, I did notice that she had less spit up with the first flow nipple. Having the option to try different nipple sizes was very helpful since the lower flow rate allowed me to ensure the best feed for my baby. My baby was definitely less gassy with the lower first flow nipple rate. I currently mainly breast-feed my baby but use bottle feeding of breast milk twice per day to ensure she will feed well once I go back to work. I feel that the Philips Avent Natural nipples do closely mimic the mother's nipple well with the soft matte ribbed texture. As in, anything you put in or near her mouth, she will latch on to &ndash; nipples, pacifiers, fingers, chins. It is not a challenge to get her to try something new and keep it in her mouth. The benefit of these nipples, really, is the peace of mind they give me as a breastfeeding mother. I intend to breastfeed as long as I can; however, like many parents, I will soon have to head back to work. While my schedule is a more flexible one, I know I will still have to pump and she will have to drink from a bottle while I am away. I am very worried about nipple confusion, or that she will come to prefer the bottle and refuse to nurse. While that worry will probably not go away, the Philips Avent Natural Newborn Nipple has done a lot to help allay those fears. The shape of the nipple cannily matches that of a mother&rsquo;s nipple, and the wide base mimics the natural shape of the breast. Her latch on this nipple looks more like that of when she is nursing. I also appreciate the texture of the nipple, which is not a slippery, synthetically smooth latex like most. It is a softer, slightly rubbery feel, much closer to the sensation of actual skin. While slower than many nipples, the milk still seems to flow through much faster for my daughter than when she is nursing. It doesn&rsquo;t leak when turned upside down, however; it does need the sucking action to pull the milk through. As for the venting action &ndash; we have been lucky to not have much of a colic problem. However, I did notice she seemed more uncomfortably gassy after using the nipple than when she is nursed. I don&rsquo;t think the venting process is terrible &ndash; I didn&rsquo;t hear a lot of airy gulping when she drank from the nipple. I don&rsquo;t think it is quite as effective as the Dr. Brown system in keeping the air out, but it is much, much simpler, so you have to weigh the time of convenience in cleaning against the time trying to burp the baby after. Still, overall, the sense that my girl will still be comfortable with a breast-like feeding process with minimal gas has me quite pleased with this nipple. Our baby immediately took to these nipples and has had a lot more success with bottle feeding since. The shape and texture is more appropriate for his usual feeding style (breastfeeding). These slow flow nipples are absolutely great- they mimic the breast- baby gets very little to no air- she took this bottle right away like a champ! We've given her. Bottle with these nipples a few times now and I'm so glad she still takes to the breast at night- the slow flow is really a slow flow and baby has had no issues with folic or gas thus far. That being said I was very excited to try these as when I was looking for bottles after having a 5 year break between having kids the market seemed to be overflowing with options. This nipple was easily accepted by my baby, and although she isn't breastfed I can imagine the ease and use of this nipple would promote breastfed babies to accept it as well. The natural movement of the nipple doesn't matter if your baby moves their head while feeding they keep their latch on the nipple and feeding goes smoothly much like the breast. My baby is still working on the slow flow nipple but I can imagine after experimenting with the larger nipples they will be a natural progression. I was very happy to see there are many more stages now, previous bottles I've used only had fast and slow and babies change so much in 12 months you need more than two options so I was happy to see that they have more than two! Since using these bottles and nipples my little one hasn't had any problems passing gas or burping, not something I experienced with my first born 5 years ago. I like to attribute this to the new bottles. I highly recommend these to anyone who's either breastfeeding or formula feeding. I think that the silicone soft feel to the nipple had a lot to do with it. She latched on great and has done really well with it that we have incorporated this into our daily feedings. There have been no issues with spit up, colic or gas while using these nipples either which has been great. I had tried a few other nipples with my baby, and she would guzzle down the milk and then kept spitting it back up! I could not figure out what was going on. When I tried to the Phillips Avent Newborn Nipple, I was so surprised to see that she had none of these issues during or after a feeding. My little one took to this nipple quickly! She had absolutely no problem latching on from the get-go. Due to its natural breast-like shape, she was easily able to switch between the breast and drinking expressed milk through this nipple, even during the same feeding session. I immediately noticed that she ate much more slowly due to the smaller hole in this nipple. Even though it took her longer to finish, she seemed truly seemed to enjoy eating! Afterwards, she struggled significantly less with gas compared to previous nipples we had tried. With other products, we had stretches of discomfort with tears and seemingly endless hiccups, but this nipple seemed to relieve her of these issues. I am going to continue to utilize the Phillips Avent Natural nipples as my little one grows as they seem to be the ones that work best for her! I like the leaves on the nipples, I like how the shape is designed wide for nursing babies, and I appreciate that there is no BPA in them. I also like how it`s designed to work with the bottle, through venting, in order to reduce colic. I will say that even the lowest numbered nipple was too fast for my daughter but she has gotten better with it and positioning helps sometimes. I would like a special bottle sponge to clean the inside of the nipple with. I experienced leaking from this bottle; I re-read the directions, checked, and re-assembled the collar/nipple portion many times but nothing helped with the leaking. She has not had any nipple confusion when she does have to drink from the bottle. The flow is a little quick for a baby that is both breast and bottle feed so there is a tiny bit of wasted milk. The nipples are easy to clean and fit snugly into the bottle rings. The should be dried carefully before being reconnected to avoid leakage. Overall a great nipple to use for a baby that is being breast and bottle feed.
