I'm using it with my second child, and I wish I had purchased it with my first. I never thought I would have any use for a manual pump. I used an electric with my first child, and it is fine. The Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump expresses more milk for me than my electric pump in the same amount of time. It is more comfortable to use, and doesn't require an outlet. I can express the milk anywhere! I LOVE the convenience of this pump. It does have more parts that need to be cleaned, but it is worth it. I also loved that I didn't have to lean forward for the milk to flow into the bottle, and that the pump screwed directly onto the bottle. My baby took to the natural bottle that came in this set too. He liked it as much as the bottles he had been using, and went back to the breast just fine! But this one is sooo much better than any I've tried. I used to only use a manual pump in a battery-related emergency, but on the Avent manual pump, suction is so good and it's so comfortable that I've started leaving my beloved electric home on short trips. With this hand pump, I've pumped under a scarf at a concert, in a cab, and even at home (where the double electric would be an easy choice) - that's how much I like this pump. With some quick squeezes for a few minutes in the beginning, the Avent manual breast pump gives me a great letdown and I can just squeeze slowly after that. I've found silicone liners/cushions on other pumps to have a slightly sticky texture that ended up pinching my skin in use, but the cushion on this pump isn't perfectly smooth, so it won't grab your skin I've struggled with other manual pumps where the handle doesn't stay straight while you pump - and you're constantly adjusting the angle. Once I get going, I can use this pump with one hand. And my son likes the Avent bottles, so that's a bonus. It's also really easy to clean - I don't know why no one thought to put the gripper tab on the duck bill valve before - it's so simple. I've been recommending the Phillips Avent manual breast pump to all my pregnant friends. I am a stay at home mother of 4, and this pump is perfect for my needs. I mainly use it once a day in order to help build a freezer stash of emergency milk for my seven month old son. It is super easy to put together, with a minimum of parts and expresses milk quickly and comfortably. I am able to pump about 4 oz in about ten minutes. Super easy to slip in an extra pumping session while reading a book with my daughter or watching tv at night, without lugging out a loud, cumbersome electric pump. The design is very streamlined and has a small silhouette, which makes it great for using as a passenger in the car, it's quite discreet. The pump fits with the glass Avent bottle as well as the BPA free plastic bottle that it came with, which is a great bonus! The natural bottle is a great fit for our occasional bottle taker, he is able to transition from the breast to bottle easily, the wide mouth bottle is conducive to this. Cleaning the pump is fairly easy and straightforward. The pieces all come apart and reassemble easily. Electric pumps can be so bulky, heavy to carry around, time consuming to set up, and most importantly, extremely conspicuous (noise, wires, heavy stand), etc. Many moms don't have time nowadays, and need a quick solution to pump for their babies/children! The Philips Event Manual Breast Pump is the answer for just that! It came put together in the box so you can literally see JUST how easy it is to put together and use. Taking it apart was not difficult whatsoever, and neither was cleaning it out. There's not as many pieces as an electric pump, so it makes for less cleaning and setting up time for moms (or dads)! That is a huge win right there, especially if you're using this pump for work! Using it was also super easy! You just center the breast shield on your nipple, squeeze the handle, and pump away! WOW. Imagine not having to worry about the noise or carrying around a million bulky items! The breast shield is extremely comfortable as well, as it has a nice textured, soft plastic piece over the hard plastic shield, making it very comfortable to pump in. My only complaint is that it felt as though the pump didn't have as much suction, so it took a second to get the flow going. Besides that, it's still a great buy. There's many pros to getting it, such as easy on the wallet, small, and easy to use. The cons for me would be less suctions, and you lose a free hand (but honestly, does that matter?). However, it was much easier to use than I expected! The handle is surprisingly comfortable, and it gets good suction with little effort. I was a little nervous my hand would cramp pumping for 15 minutes at a time, but I had no issues at all. It&rsquo;s smaller than I thought it would be &ndash; small enough to fit easily in an average sized purse! &ndash; which makes it very portable and that was a huge bonus in my book. It also comes with a handy cap to keep the cup clean and sanitary which is a great design feature. And it&rsquo;s much quieter and more discreet than an electric pump, and has fewer pieces so it's easier to clean. I use this product if I need to pump while I&rsquo;m out for the day or traveling for work. Just after I received this product I went on a business trip, the first time I&rsquo;d spent overnight away from my son, and I&rsquo;m so glad I brought this with me. I had expected to have time and privacy during the day to pump which ended up not being possible after all. By the time I got back to my hotel room, I was very uncomfortable to say the least! I&rsquo;d brought my regular pump with me and tried using that, but I was unable to express more than a few drops of milk. Then I remembered I had the Philips pump in my bag and decided to see if I had better luck with that. It worked perfectly and I was able to pump successfully! The one piece of this product I haven&rsquo;t used much is the Natural bottle. It's so much easier to throw in a bag when I'm going out and might need to pump, but won't have my electric with me. When I went to try it the first time I did have a slight learning curve. I kept losing suction and could not figure out why. After a minute or so of trial and error, I realized that the way I was holding it was slightly flipping the massager cup off the flange. This was causing me to lose the suction. I simply tucked it back on and adjusted my grip. I haven't had that problem since! The bottle worked great as well. The parts are all easy to put together and it is easier to clean than my electric pumps. I was surprised at how comfortable the pump was to use. I love that it comes with a little cover for the flange which made it easy to travel with (though I still stuck it in a plastic bag). This pump really makes traveling with a baby easy. The pump parts are so easy to clean and put back together again. There are less parts to clean, too, which is helpful. And because it is so easy, I even use it when I need to pump at home and don&rsquo;t want to deal with the electric pump. It&rsquo;s just a great, versatile pump (meaning it&rsquo;s been great for travel and regular use). The pump does make some noise when hand pumping, but it&rsquo;s not terribly loud. Sometimes my hand would get tired pumping, but it wasn&rsquo;t too much of an inconvenience, I would just switch hands or change the way I was using my hand to pump. I have never noticed that I get less milk from using this pump than I do when I use an electric pump. The bottle it came with was great. The natural nipple is perfect. The first problem for me was that the flange was too wide for my nipple so I ordered the smaller size and I think that helped. I only knew to do that because I had to do the same thing with my electric pump. It would be nice if this product came with the small, medium and large in case your nipples aren't the exact size of the medium, but oh well. For me, even with the small size, I wasn't able to express much milk. I found the positioning awkward to do with one hand, and it makes a squeak, so, not easy and not discrete. I was hoping to use this when on trips to not have to lug my electric pump and also while my baby is nursing on the other side for the times he only feeds on one side, but it was too clunky and loud for that to happen. As far as cleaning goes, it's a hassle just like every other pump because there are so many parts. I wouldn't say it's harder than other pumps but I find the whole pump cleaning world to be a pain in the butt. Also, the bottles from this brand don't work well for my baby because even the smallest flow nipple is too fast. I received this pump free from weespring parent panel to try. I went from pumping every 2 to 3 hours with my double and having barely enough to last through a day at daycare to using this every 4 to 5 hours and being able to cover 1.5 days at daycare. It is so efficient at expressing milk. I thought I would have an issue with it taking too long because it is a single or strain my hands but this is not the case. I previously pumped 3 to 4 oz each time to about 8. I love this pump and will continue to use it. Pump is not too powerful and is comfortable. Easy to clean, not too many parts. The only downfall was the bottle. I had to keep emptying it (says how much I was able to pump with it!) And my son did not like the nipple. I have a dual electric pump and didn't know when I would use a manual, but I am very glad to have the Philips Avent manual breast pump. I use my electric pump at work during my 8-10 hour shifts. Sometimes I will have a 5 hour shift which I don't need to stop and use my electric pump, however there have been times when I have needed to stay late and just need to relieve a little pressure until I can get home and feed my child. This is when the manual pump comes in the most useful. I use it about every other week. It is very handy as it can be used discretely anywhere, no need for electricity, batteries, cords, tubes, etc. It allows you to sit comfortably while you pump. It is nice and compact, it fits well in my larger purses. This pump has a soft &quot;massage cushion&quot; for the flange that is almost like padding. It makes the pump very comfortable and is designed to help stimulate let down. However, this velvety soft material is a bit of a magnet for dust and pet hair. The pump comes with a travel cover for the flange area, which is necessary if your house/purse/car are not in the most pristine condition. The pump is very easy to clean and put back together. My favorite part is the little handle area on the duckbill valve where the milk drips into the bottle (see picture). This allows you to remove the valve without touching the delicate thin area that could be easily damaged. The natural bottle and nipple that come with the pump are great. Comfort-wise, it is nice. I have never had a manual pump before or even a pump with a cushion, so that was nice. The texture of the flange cushion did make it difficult to make sure that everything was centered though. The suction is great. I could get milk to come out with the first pump. However, I had difficultly achieving a letdown (probably due to my dwindling supply) so I didn&rsquo;t have the arm stamina to get much milk. I have been told that with a manual pump, once you get a letdown, you shouldn&rsquo;t have to do much pumping. Perhaps in my early nursing days this would work better. Maybe for nursing and pumping. Set up is easy. There are only a few parts to put back together after cleaning. I think my favorite thing and the thing that we still use is the bottle. We have a lot of the natural bottles. They come in large sizes that don&rsquo;t always fit in our bag, but this little guy is perfect. It&rsquo;s a small 4 ounce bottle with a slow flow nipple. This device could not have come at a better time. Before receiving the Phillips Advent manual breast pump, I had been using two electric breast pumps. One of the devices is a stationary pump, the other is a portable device. While both of these devices work well and are great when I have the time and ability to put my baby girl down, they are not practical without ideal conditions. Recently this point was made quite clear by a trip to the urgent care. Christmas morning my little 5 month old baby girl was dressed up in her little Christmas onesie and she couldn&rsquo;t look any cuter when my husband pointed out that she was fiddling with her ear a lot we kept an eye on it. She kept playing with her ear as the day went on. Finally, I decided it was time we went to the hospital. We bundled her up grabbed her diaper bag and I tossed the Phillips Advent manual breast pump in just in case. I hadn&rsquo;t used it before but I figured might as well throw it in just in case. Turns out it ended up being my saving grace. We were at the urgent care for a little over a hour when I felt the pressure building in my breasts. By the time we were done getting the babies prescription, my breasts were hurting so much I couldn&rsquo;t think straight. We rushed out to the car where I quickly began feeding my little princess. While she was latched on to my left side the pressure in my other breast was bringing me nearly to tears. I asked my husband to grab the Phillips Advent manual breast pump out of her diaper bag and give it to me. While she was latched on to my left side, I was able to begin releasing the pressure manually on the opposite side. To my surprise this manual pump worked great. In about only five minutes of pumping I had manually expressed nearly 3oz. Don&rsquo;t get me wrong this is not a replacement for a electric pump, as you can&rsquo;t pump two breast at the same time or hands free but this compact little pump is able to be used concurrently with feeding your little one without setup time worrying about a charge, which worked well in my situation. Also, the silicone flange insert creates a much better seal than either of my electric pumps at home. This device is easy to clean and conveniently stores in our bag. We can attach it to any advent bottle we own and personally it is going to be a staple in my bag for as long as I am pumping. I like that it is perfectly quiet, and it is convenient that I don&rsquo;t have to be near an electrical outlet to pump. These features allowed me to sit on the couch enjoying my favorite shows while pumping. A great feature specific to the Avent Manual Breast Pump is that there are only 6 pieces making it quick and easy to disassemble. It takes me less then a minute to put everything back together again, which is very important since I am busy mom! Another very important feature is how easy it was to clean. All pieces are dishwasher safe, so without much effort I can have it ready to go, knowing that it is completely clean. The bottle that comes with the pump has ended up being our favorite bottle we own. It has an easy to clean design that doesn't have hard to reach crevices. My baby took to it easily. Lastly, it was very important to be able to see that I was actively expressing milk. The design of the clear flange made this possible. My biggest challenge while using the Avent manual breast pump was keeping suction. I was able to initiate a milk let down but could not get into a good rhythm to keep the milk flowing because I had to keep repositioning and resealing the flange. I also find when I massage my breast tissue I can express more milk. This is very difficult to do while trying keep the pump positioned and sealed with one hand and squeezing the pump with the other.
