When we were at the toy aisle he saw this and became obessed! This was all he talked about for weeks and my husband and I decided we should get it for him. This you is awesome. The ship is huge and just so many fun features! Him and I have played with Thai toy for hours and he hasn't gotten bored of it! They enjoyed assembling the playset, it was easy enough for them to follow the instructions and do on their own with minimal help from me. The Mario figurine is included with this playset and you are able to purchase additional figurines separately. Which we did so that all the kids could enjoy playing together. You are able to lift the top off of the ship and store your figurines in there to put up. This is great because everything stays together. The ship makes sounds just like the Mario game and the propellers spin. All you need is a couple of batteries. This playset would make an awesome gift for any kid. My boys are 3 and 4 and they had it apart within minutes. It does not stay together very well with playful boys. We ended up gluing it together to see if it would stay together longer. They ended up losing the little weapon pieces all over the house and haven't played with it since. I feel like the removal of the top deck to access the storage space below could be a bit easier, but once you get the hang of it, it's okay. I like the sound effects that play when you push the button on the side of the ship, especially the Bowser's castle song that plays every now and then. It totally brings me back to my childhood playing Mario games. My son is 4 years old and he hasn't really gotten into video games yet, so although he knows who Mario and Bowser are (from Mario Kart Wii), I don't think he appreciates the sound effects as much as I do. He hasn't really played with it a lot since the initial unboxing, so I might recommend this for a kid that is slightly older. While the plastic is good quality, it requires some assembly and the pieces don't hold together very well. The back part of the ship does not stay on, and you have to disassemble the ship to install new batteries. I also found it strange that the playset didn't come with a Bowser figurine. With only one character to play with, there is not very much to do with the playset.
