I am really impressed with the ball ammo that they are using with this platform and in many ways they are much more fun and less fiddly than the dart version of Nerf guns. The toy is made from excellent, good quality plastic that does not break easily, which is perfect considering my teen boys take their Nerf Gun fights quite seriously, if the gun gets dropped, it will not break and there is no chance of damage to the internal mechanism. This is definitely a toy for older children and teens, not something that I would purchase for younger kids as it really does have quite a bit of power behind it when shot. It is also slightly more complicated to load and use, than a regular Nerf. I would definitely recommend that you purchase more of the ammo, as due to them being balls, it is quite easy for them to roll off and get lost. My sons have had hours of fun with the Rival Nerf Guns and I can definitely see more being purchased in the the future. I do like that they have larger round balls they shoot much better then the old long bullets and don't get clogged in the gun. Not to much to this one. You load the bullets pull back on the handle and shoot. You have to cock it before each shot and it can get tiring on your arm. The package only comes with 8 balls so we will be getting an extra pack cause it doesn't take long to shoot them. The small balls are a fun change from the normal foam darts. The balls are soft and do not hurt when hit with them, which seems to happen often with my boys. The gun is made really well and withstands the rough play that my boys always tend to do. The size is really nice as well. It&rsquo;s big enough for both my five year old and fourteen year old to use, but not too big to be awkward to hold. You can't see the ammunition from the outside of the package. I went by the name Nerf remembering the Nerf balls of my youth, and they were just foam. These balls/ammo are soft and squooshy, but not when they hit. If you shoot anyone with these, it will hurt! While the instructions were clear, I found the gun awkward to handle, load, shoot, prime. You needed two hands to do almost all things, and the gun had to be resting on its side to both load and prime. It shoots hard and fast. In the house the balls went bouncing all over the place; I had lost two before I knew it. Not even the cats have found them yet. If you don't want to continually lose ammo, then this needs to be played with in a controlled environment with nowhere for the balls to hide. Outside, they'd be lost in the grass before you know it (so buy a refill kit when you buy the gun). It is NOT a toy for children to shoot each other with, like cops and robbers. It's something that should be used like in a contest, seeing how accurate you can aim and shoot at *things* (not people).
