It takes four double A batteries- that are not included and you will need a small screwdriver to remove the cover for the batteries. Once you load the darts you have to hold the second trigger then shoot using the first trigger. It does make noise while shooting. It makes this low humming sound which sounds like a small handheld vacuum cleaner. This nerf gun comes with eight darts which shoots out pretty fast. If you have other nerf gun darts that are similar in size, those will work as well. Just don't overload it of else it won't work. My son had a blast lining up empty plastic water bottles and using them as target practice. This is one of the biggest nerf guns he has owned, it's very light and there are rubber tips on the darts.
