I have two boys (6 &amp; 4) and a girl (1). My boys loved launching the plush penguins while my daughter watched and laughed. They don't go super far so if you have a small space this toy won't upset the play area. I was expecting it to be nosy but it turns out to be kind of quiet for the action. The whale's spout (where the mallet hits) is rubberized so the noise is dampened a bit. The whale/stand is pretty solid and sturdy. The penguins and number mats are soft and seemingly well made. I think this will be a long-lasting game unlike other kids games these days. Even for two boys and over a few weeks this game looks pretty new. I'm convinced. It also becomes different kinds of games such as tossing the penguins to a number or even fling the number discs. Again, they are super soft so I wasn't concerned at all about anyone getting hurt. The mallet is wood but neither of my boys used it other than for what it was for. The new-toy-novelty wore off rather quickly until we started trying to go launch other toys with it. We have only had it for a week and it gets brought out frequently to be played with. My 4 year old adores the penguins. The quality of this game is great and is really built to last. My soon to be 3 year was easily able to play this game and had so much fun along with my 6 year old. This game has a few different variations that you can choose. My kids enjoy seeing how far they can launch the penguins. It was a bit tricky at first for them to get the hang of launching the penguins in the correct direction. They soon figured out where to place the circles for the penguins to land. I loved that this came with a bag to store all of the game contents in! I loved how simple this game was and my kids still had fun with it. What kids don't enjoy hitting something with a hammer?! The only negative we really found was that the penguins don't launch very far. My kids were expecting them to fly much farther. We're already big fans of Melissa and Doug in our house but the simplicity of this toy is part of the allure. There's no plastic packaging or ties, just open the box and you're ready to play! In addition to being too impatient to open things, my little dude is also often too impatient to sit and wait to read instructions so this Penguin Launch and Land was a huge hit for him. It is simple to understand and developmentally appropriate for the stated age group. Like all Melissa and Doug products, the quality can't be beat! Even after HOURS of banging away, the hammer is still intact and there are no signs of wear on the whale launcher. My only critique, if you could even call it that, was the ticket slot. On our particular whale, the glue that held down the red window viewfinder kind of blocked the slot for the ticket to go in; but it wasn't a big deal for us, a little persistence and we were ready to go! I can't wait to this with all my mom friends!
