I received this through my insurance, and it survived to ten months before the motor started to fail, and at eleven months it now doesn't work at all. Even before that though, pieces of it failed (luckily before the warranty was up, but that's a problem in and of itself) and had to be replaced. Since I'm winding down pumping now, it truly doesn't even feel worth asking for a replacement. Even if I keep it new in the box, a huge part of me feels like by the time we're ready for the next baby, it will be nonfunctional. Two stars. Fine for a free product through insurance. I don't recommend paying for it unless you're someone who's happy jumping through hoops and keeping their eyes on warranty timelines.
Date published: 2025-04-15

Rated 1 out of 5 by Taaybrooke804 from “Updated” isn’t always better.. This pump was such a disappointment compared to the old square-version of this pump. I absolutely loved the old one and used it with my two oldest kids, it never let me down. However, this upgraded version lasted me a literal week before it stopped working and it seriously jeopardized my supply in the early stages of breastfeeding. There wasn’t much I really liked about it, and here’s what I didn’t like: 1. The connectors: They may look fancy, but the company took something that worked and made it unnecessarily complex. I didn’t like not being able to see how much I was pumping or if I was still lactating. The membranes come unsealed and will stop all suction on the affected side. Found this out during a 2 a.m. pump and was covered in milk by the end of disconnecting, dismantling and repairing it. Not a pleasant experience. Also wasn’t as simple to quickly clean. 2. The suction of this pump is much greater than the old style, even on the lowest setting. It’s very painful when you have cracked, raw nipples from getting used to your baby’s latch. I would close my eyes and press the power button. Initially, I thought it was just that I was extremely sore.. until I used a different pump, then I realized that the suction was just much more powerful. 3. The fact that it isn’t encased in anything like the old style was makes it much more vulnerable. I was constantly paranoid about my kids tripping over the cord and knocking it down. 4. I discovered at 11 p.m. at night that it decided to just stop working when pressing the power button and it didn’t turn on. My husband troubleshooted the issue, which ended up being the piece that you plug the power cord into. It was too late to go buy another pump, and I was in the early stages where 8-10 hours without expressing could have seriously diminished my supply. This resulted in my husband waking up every 3 hours with me to hold the pump in a particular way so it would stay on.. even then, it kept turning off repeatedly. This pump was honestly a nightmare. There is a one year warranty on the motor, but I don’t even want it replaced for free. If I could go back, I would’ve paid a little extra when using my insurance to get the Spectra. Thankfully, my friend had kept her old-style Medela that I was able to pick up the next day. Of course, none of the parts were compatible.. but after purchasing the old style parts and going back to what works, things have been smooth sailing since. Steer clear of this pump.
Date published: 2025-04-13

Rated 2 out of 5 by Katee25 from Buy something else My baby is 2 months old and we’re on our THIRD motor for this pump. When pregnant with my third child it wasn’t a question which pump I would be getting because of the success I’d had with Medela previously. The product quality has significantly gone down over the last 8 years. I feel bad that I recommended Medela to all of my friends and family not realizing how much the product has changed. With my older two, I used the older version of this pump (Medela Pump in Style Advanced) and I loved it! The only complaint I'd ever heard was that it was loud, but this never bothered me because I felt like the product did what it was supposed to do. With my third baby, I used the new Pump in Style and I would not buy it again. The biggest problem is the suction. Sometimes the pump struggles to grasp my breast and its really frustrating. Sometimes I have to keep adjusting it to get it to grab ahold. The other problems I have with it are minor -- the let down part of the pump is too short in my opinion (I have to push it two or three times in a row). It also only comes with one hose directly into the pump, not two. On the old pump there were two separate hoses that connected directly into the pump, so I had the option to pump on one breast hands-free. Sometimes I've used this new pump to pump one breast but I had to hold my finger over the hole of one side in order to do it, so I couldn't be hands-free. Sometimes pumping on one breast has been beneficial to me because one breast produces a lot more than the other and it felt like my baby couldn't handle the heavy let down of that breast when he was a newborn. Disappointed they did away with that feature. It also took away the ability to pump on one side and breastfeed on the other (hands-free) for those overproducing mamas. All-in-all, it works, but I wouldn't buy it again. I wish Medela kept the older version.
Date published: 2024-10-14

Rated 5 out of 5 by DanielleMitcham from This pump is a joke I got this pump through my insurance for free, and thank goodness I didn’t pay anything, cus it would have been a waste of money. I’m so disappointed and frustrated. I’m currently waiting on my 4th pump. This first pump after 1-2 months stopped working. It made an awful noise and it took over an hour just to get a couple ounces. I had to get a hand pump to use since the pump was not emptying my breasts. 2nd pump worked great for a couple months. The suction started to decline even if I increased and I started to get a significant amount less and had to pump longer. I have another pump and wasn’t having this issue with the back up pump. I replaced the tube which didn’t help anything. Then it started to not change when I would press the arrows to increase or decrease suction. Called again and received another replacement. 3rd pump when I press the power button doesn’t turn on. I have to press it twice and then the motor grinds for a little bit before the suction starts. I’m also not consistently able to get a good pump. Again, have to use a secondary pump to empty my breasts. I don’t have the same issue with the other pumps manual or my wearable which leads me to believe it’s the pump. Both are from a different company. I’ve had to buy two other pumps just so I can continue to breastfeed. I Have asked for a different pump to try and they’re just sending a 4th pump. I regret going with this pump and with this company. The stress and frustration is not worth it. If you’re considering this pump don’t. I’ve been seeing more recent reviews with the same issues I’ve been having. I’m not the only one. There’s better pumps that are less expensive and time consuming than this one.
Date published: 2023-10-31

Rated 2 out of 5 by Ella731 from But WHY? Changed for the worse. This is my second medela pump and it is much worse than the older version. The one thing I like is that the pump is smaller than the older version, so I guess more portable. But the pump bag it comes with is MUCH smaller, so it more than offsets that benefit. The pump parts are more difficult to use and more expensive. The door to clasp the diaphragm in tightly looks like it is about to break any day now and does not have a good locking mechanism to ensure it is closed properly. The diaphragms look cool, but they are more difficult to use and after microwaving them a couple of times for sanitation, they really don't like to lay flat to allow me to close the clasp of the system. The worst part about this pump is that the parts and pump are not universal to the older version. The old pump parts are not compatible with the new pump version. So I can't use my extra pump parts I have from previous babies. Instead, I have to buy extras of this one if I want to pump more than once at work. I still have my old pump and have gone back to using that one. This new one is not the "upgrade" that it should be. In terms of pump effectiveness, it is pretty much the same as the old version.
Date published: 2023-10-10

Rated 1 out of 5 by M Norman from DO NOT PURCHASE! Do NOT get this pump; you will regret it! This pump has caused me a lot of stress and grief! I would give it zero stars if I could. I received this pump with my insurance. I absolutely loved my old Medela pump in style advanced so I thought I’d love this one too. I WISH that were true. There are some MAJOR issues with it: 1. This pump is so incredibly loud! When I’m pumping at night, I feel like I have to leave the room, so I don’t wake up my baby and My Husband. 2. It shakes really badly; so badly in fact that it has shaken itself off my coffee table and fallen onto the floor several times. I have to hold it or place it on the floor so that it doesn’t fall over. 3. The suction is not as strong as the old one even at the max and I feel like the suction is uneven. It feels like there is always more suction on one side than the other. 4. The PersonalFit Flex™ Connectors are VERY poorly designed. Due to the design breast milk can EASILY spill out of the bottle if you accidentally knock it over or even lean too far when wearing it. I have lost SEVERAL ounces of precious breastmilk this way. :( 5. In addition to the leaking, one of my PersonalFit Flex™ Connectors has cracked over time for some reason so now it cannot get a proper seal, forcing me to only pump one side at a time. Save yourself the stress and pick a different pump; preferably one that does not use the PersonalFit Flex™ Connectors.
Date published: 2023-10-09

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jenn002 from Great pump I loved this pump I ordered through Aeroflow with insurance and it had great suction and very comfortable. I received this pump with my insurance. I loved my old medela pump in style advanced so I thought I’d love this one too. It does not compare to the old model at all! First, there is no dial like the old one so it is hard to tell how strong the suction is. Next, it is SO LOUD and it shakes really loud, third the suction is not as strong as the old one even at the max. Fourth- The suction is uneven and I get a bigger/ stronger output one side. I thought my model was defective so I contacted medela and the wonderful customer service gave me a new one. My second one does the same! So I got a third one, medela must not be this bad I thought. Well, it is, my third one does the same! I am very worried about my supply with the suction being so terrible. I get more of an output with my cheap hands free pump than this one. Do not get this new medela pump in style. You will regret it. I do because I can’t get a different pump now and have to spend money on a new one for when I go back to work so my supply doesn’t dip. This pump has caused me a great deal of stress about being able to feed my child. I would give it zero stars if I could. I am so disappointed in it that I felt compelled to write a review. By comparison, the previous model was better. Mine lasted ten years. I'm ready to throw this one away. Issues: - The new components are poorly designed. The rubber seal barely seals. If it's not PERFECTLY fitted into the plastic components, there is zero suction. Leaving you with leaking breasts and a faulty pump; trying to readjust the seal. - Due to the seal's imperfections, valuable breast milk can EASILY spill out of the bottle is tipped slightly due to the fact that BM gets stuck in the seal area. - It's difficult to clean unless you have a special brush or a Q-tip. Speaking of, if you do not clean it after each use, milk cakes up on every single part of the components and begins to smell. - Reiterating that unless you clean it perfectly each time and let it dry, the seal does not work and it's worthless.
Date published: 2023-08-31

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mgm18 from Randomly turns off I received mine from the hospital, I’m not sure if it was dropped at some point but my pump sometimes doesn’t turn on and when it does it turns off every 5 minutes or so.
Date published: 2023-08-21

Medela Pump In Style with MaxFlow Technology, Closed System Quiet Portable Double Electric Breastpump, with PersonalFit Flex Breast Shields Reviews - page 3

y_2025, m_6, d_17, h_4

bvseo_bulk, prod_bvrr, vn_bulk_3.0.42

cp_2, bvpage2n

co_hasreviews, tv_7, tr_615

loc_en_CA, sid_64509BDE, prod, sort_[SortEntry(order=SUBMISSION_TIME, direction=DESCENDING)]

clientName_toysrus-ca

bvseo_sdk, dw_cartridge, 18.2.0, p_sdk_3.2.0

CLOUD, getReviews, 5ms

reviews, product
