Got a photo back of one of them (4 years old) sitting in the sandbox where he'd been all day -- his parents couldn't get him out to go in and eat dinner. A lid is important for a sandbox (cats, leaves, bugs, rain...), this has one. Make sure you get &quot;play sand&quot;, not landscaping sand. Big difference. Sand needs to be a bit damp to be fun, so it does stick to the kids a bit. Let them dry off for a few minutes, then brush off the sand outside. It's a nice sturdy base (the turtle body) and holds easily 3 bags of playsand, we probably could have fit the 4th bag that we bought also but didn't want to risk overfilling. It would fit 3 young children well so plenty of room for play. The only part we didn't like about the sandbox is the lid. It seems to be flimsy and quite light. We had to place a large rock on it to keep it from blowing off with the everyday breeze.
