You do need a brick to hold the lid on and that does distort the lid over time. Sides of the sand box are sturdy, my son loves so sit in the side and play in the sand. My son loves playing in it daily for hours. Some reviews mentioned the lid isn&rsquo;t sturdy enough and it may seem that way but our doesn&rsquo;t blow off with heavy winds and it keeps the rain out. The built in seats are great, since it can even hold my weight if I sit on it. I had the old turtle sand box, which I thought to be better in appearance,as well as sturdier.The old sandbox lasted 25 plus years and had two raised locking knobs on both sides. It never blew off and lasted outside till the tree in my backyard had to be taken down. A stray tree limb fell on the lid splitting it and causing water to get into the box. The tree people offered to replace the box. When it arrived, the product looked similar, but not as sturdy and the lid blew off everyday. I'm sorry to say I will be returning this product.
