The design and detail are next level and completely blew away any Lego set I built as a kid. I&rsquo;m also a sucker for anything medieval. I never would have even thought of getting a Lego set as an adult but I was drawn in by the 18+ &ldquo;adults welcome&rdquo; marketing and the complex nature of the design. That said, I really enjoyed building this set. I was attracted to it because of the lovely color scheme, and as it progressed room by room there are lots of wonderful little details. Once the whole thing is assembled, most of those details are hidden inside and can't be admired unless the level above it is removed. So sitting on display, while a beautiful building, the most charming parts of it are secreted away. I would have liked there to be more/larger windows so that all the carefully crafted details of the interior could be more easily admired. The stonework is nicely done, the kitchen garden is a nice touch, and light-up forge is a lot of fun. I typically leave my sets assembled for a couple of months, then disassemble and re-bag them to rotate in something new to best use my small space. It was my first big build and my first modular construction. The Tudor details and the roof were fun to build. I hope there will be more sets to coordinate with this one as it would be fun to have a Medieval village. I was unsure how difficult it would be to tackle a larger set, but the detailed instructions were easy to follow. The only difficulty I had was the &quot;exploding&quot; tree. There was one wedge-shaped piece that did not want to connect into place. Every time I got a few more steps through the process, the tree would &quot;explode&quot; and I'd throw my arms over it to keep parts from flying off my worktable. After many attempts, I finally got past that step. Needless to say, I have been hesitant to adjust the leaves on the tree too much for fear that the wedge-shaped piece will cause the tree to &quot;explode&quot; again. But since they have been growing at a rapid pace since the start of the pandemic, quality issues keep coming up. In this phenomenal LEGO Ideas set, I didn't make it through bag 8. There are so many pieces missing (and replaced with wrong ones) that it is impossible to complete the set. In the past when I requested missing pieces it took usually 2-4 weeks to get the missing bricks, if I ever got them. In two cases my request for replacement parts were just cancelled and it took over 8 weeks to get the missing pieces. It's quite sad to see those quality issues not being resolved. In my latest order I bought four sets and I feel like the other sets will probably disappoint as well. I can say that this medieval blacksmith set is among my top 3 favorite sets all-time including all of the most popular themes. Beautiful and charming design, full of nostalgia for the medieval themes of Lego&rsquo;s past, and so much more to build than you&rsquo;d expect. These days, I build one or two sets a year, and I love coming back to Lego after a bit of time has passed and seeing all of the improvements they&rsquo;ve made. That continuous improvement has been in the company&rsquo;s DNA since I can remember. For this blacksmith set, what really struck me were the colors and the artistry. The way the designers created a weathered look for the roof, the interior touches, and all of the little hidden surprises are just delightful. And if I&rsquo;m honest, this set is a very high value as well, given it&rsquo;s part count and price. That&rsquo;s a benefit of a model that doesn&rsquo;t have to cover the cost of licensing (that would be paid to a brand/production studio/etc). I would love to see this set inspire a new launch of medieval sets designed in the same &ldquo;expert creator&rdquo; way. The blacksmiths shop has so much going on and the furnace lighting up is a great touch. Furniture throughout is wonderful from the living area to the bedroom. (Blacksmiths business must have been good!) The roof is easy to remove and replace for access to the bedroom, and the rest of the floors are easily removed if needed. For older folk whose fingers are not as deft as they used to be there are some tricky parts eg the apple tree which took me a while. But that&rsquo;s the point, there should be some challenges along the way. Loved the construction of the roof. I was a Lego Castle guy back when I was smaller and this really hit all of the nostalgia buttons (but I will note if you were used to playing with your Legos on the floor as a kid, the back cramps differently after 30 years, so you've been warned: use a table). In addition to looking great etc., there were techniques that were new to me (some like what you'd see on Lego Masters) that were great to learn too. There were some fun surprises to discover and it is very cool how easily the different floors come apart. Need I say more? But if I must, then I will. This is a great set. It's the biggest, and in my opinion best, medieval themed set LEGO's ever done. It's not just the size that I appreciate. It's that LEGO took this to MOC level, with the amount of detail and planning in this set. In the first place, there are actually sensible ways for the minifigs to get to the different levels, which most sets in general, not just castle, lack. Also, it's actually correctly scaled to minifigs, which most other LEGO castle themed sets aren't. Speaking of the minifigs, they're awesome. The blacksmith and his wife are fine, but nothing spectacular. However, the Black Falcons are just fantastic, as is their horse. There's really nothing bad about this set. If I want to get really nitpicky, I could say that the apple tree was interesting to build, but from certain angles doesn't look great, and the Black Falcon's cart is fine, but no really that exciting compared to the main blacksmith shop. But if you think about it, those are some pretty pathetic complaints. As another fun bonus, you get a whole pile (~50) of extra pieces, some of which are pretty sweet.
