We've put together many, many Lego sets and this is the first we can truly say we've been disappointed in. Although the details are cool, the dragon doesn't really sit well on the set, so to display, he's just sitting next to it. That really lessens the impact, visually. Wish we wouldn't have purchased this one.

Complex thoughts
First of all, this is my first official review of a LEGO product, I have never had enough to say to write one before. This set, on the other hand, finally inspired me to write this. To get the easy stuff out of the way, yes, it’s too expensive. Yes, it should have come with the manual. Yes, the stickers look sloppy because the colors aren’t matched well. But my biggest concern here is with the build. Now, I’m not a professional or anything, but I’ve built a lot of sets in my time. And never in my life has a LEGO set had me scratching my head why they built something this way. Trust me when I tell you that building this thing is like a DnD campaign. You get an idea of what the result is supposed to be, but every step leaves you questioning how the heck you are supposed to get there. When you reach the end, you get a model that has unnecessary extensions to the base that make it harder to find space for, full of frankly weird building techniques and really fun Easter eggs. If you miss a step and have to go back, trust me, I did it too. The instructions have very little rhyme or reason, and some parts look unfinished. Honestly I think they just needed to quality control this one a tad more before sending it out. Some sections are flushed out and beautiful and some are just… exposed plate with no decor? It’s really quite odd. Also, there’s very little direction about how to pose things in this model, especially Cinderhowl the Red Dragon herself. The way that the 360 degree spin shows her placed on the tower is different than the way used on the box, and neither are that intuitive. We needed specific placement information in the instructions itself. I don’t regret buying this set, there’s enough here to really like, but as a LEGO enthusiast, I honestly believe you guys just sent this one to print a bit too quickly. The build is not up to the LEGO standard I have come to expect from you. The instructions are messy and lack a lot of clarity when it comes to model placement. The stickers don’t match the color of the pieces they are on. The minifigures and monster builds are excellent, and the Easter eggs and wealth of weapons and treasures found in this set are truly awesome. I just think you guys put way more effort into that than you put into the actual build. Thanks for reading!
(P.S. Here are some photos of the result of an hour of me trying to figure out how to set the dragon on the tower like the 360 spin video shows(the secret is the wings))

This is a massive LEGO set. You get the equivalent of about four large scale sets in one box. Three of them interlock and one of them is a massive dragon.
But wait! There’s more! You can actually use this set with an accompanying adventure module to play a DND one-shot based around it. There’s even an actual play of it on YouTube and it appears appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels.
It’s expensive but well worth it.
I do want to add, however, that mine did miss a single piece. I may have misplaced it but try as I might, I could not find it anywhere. Fortunately, LEGO sent me a replacement and I was able to finish building.

As an AFOL, a D&D player, and a dragon lover, I had to have this. I normally go for builds that aren't houses or castles, but this was so much better than the straight lines that most of those are. They kept it interesting by varying the build with rocks and having mini monster builds in-between. Nothing repetitive here. My only slight disappointment is they made it a red dragon instead of the green (my favorite color and enemy choice) the original Ideas build had. But I do understand the choice. Great fun, hidden gems (literally) and playability options not just with their campaign. A must have.

So much more than expected...
I purchased this set after having seen the winning Lego Ideas submission and tracking the buildup to release... at first I was hesitant about the translation to commercial offering - the color scheme looked more whimsical than the IDEAS submission, which had a darker, grittier feel I liked. Ultimately, the new look grew on me and I took the plunge - and subsequently had the most enjoyable Lego building experience of my adult life.
The variety of environments, colors, creatures and secrets (there are so, so many!), coupled with the well-conceived modular design, made this set so satisfying to build. I indulge in Lego as a meditative escape from the daily grind... this build not only served that purpose, but it was fun and engaging in a wholly unexpected way. I was sharing some of the surprises that are hidden in the set with my kids, and kept stumbling on ones I had forgotten.
Lego really raised the bar with this set... for the price and size, I don't know of anything that rivals it (I've built the Lion Knight's Castle and Rivendell... both of which are fantastic... but I just had a ridiculous amount of fun with this one).

Just wanna first say that I absolutely adore this set and would almost consider buying a second one. It’s a fair value for what is given and the build experience felt fun and honestly unique. However, once I got to building the dragon I realized the box, and the promotional images had kinda lied. It is nearly, if not completely impossible to pose the dragon *on* or around the tower. Which was something I was somewhat banking on for how I was hoping to display the set as a whole. Other than that one little issue, the set is still incredibly and as long as the buyer is aware of the dragons independence, I highly recommend it.

Rekindled my D&D love
This is definitely the best set I've built in a while. I love so many things about it.
First, I love that there's a story, that there's a module to play along with the set (Insider reward). I love how the build instructions follow the story. You build the inn where the adventure starts. Then you build the meadow and dungeon, the travel and entrance. You build the tower next where the plot thickens. And finally the Dragon is assembled, the climactic confrontation.
I love the minifigs. I like the different races and classes, I like their design and accessories, I like that there are both male and female head pieces. If you want to play a female dwarf cleric, you do you.
I love the monsters. This set includes a good assortment of classic D&D monsters. I can't decide if my favorite is the beholder (visually delightful) or the gelatinous cube (clever design and part usage).
I had so much fun putting this together and reading and daydreaming about the adventure. The whole experience made me happy. Thank you to Lego and the designers who brought this to life.

Amazing build! Dragon head could be improved.
I loved this build. My favourite part was the dragon, which I did first because I was concerned that on the box picture it seemed like he had no eyes. It makes Cinderhowl look like a mindless beast instead of a cunning and intelligent adversary.
Upon completion, I found that he does, in fact, have eyes. They are smaller than a stud, printed on a plate and then hidden under bulky details. He may as well have no eyes since they can't be seen. The book art shows Cinderhowl with huge expressive eyes. This wasn't great design, and it's not the only issue. Otherwise, his jaw is only attached to his head with a single stud, not a hinge or even a clip, and he can't look straight down; he must look to the side and down, which makes poseable play very difficult without constantly putting him back together.
So, I altered his eyes with two eye pieces from LEGO Dreamzzz Treehouse (another 5* set), two 1x1 plates, and two plate 1 x 2 rounded technic pieces. Now he has visible eyes and you can see what he is looking at.
The rest of the build was really fun, challenging, intricate, and satisfying. But I think I wouldn't be as satisfied as I am if I hadn't been able to 'fix' the dragon's eyes, which really annoyed me. Please enjoy my dragon playing with his own LEGO castle play set.

Best D&D lego set!
I gifted this to my husband who is also our Dungeon Master. He loved building it! This was the first lego set he has buildt in a long time. We love the ease of the instructions and the cute little icon that tracks throughout the book.
Our entire family got involved with building! We have a 5 and 8 yr old. We love all the traps, the hidden gem, and especially all the monsters. Who ever decided to add a baby gelatinous cube is my hero!
The dragon is the best lego dragon we have seen yet. My kids have numerous Ninjago dragons, and they do not compare to this version. We are very satisfied with waiting for this D&D rendition!

Impressed! Only waited 30 plus years but so worth the wait! The build was educational, enjoyable and being able to use it for our D&D. Well that’s a personal dream come true! Strongly recommend this item for D&D and Lego fans alike! Down right awesome! Praying there is more to come! I personally loved every aspect of this kit dragon and all! Let the dice roll!

Where do I start with this creation. The build captures the essence of Dungeons and Dragons perfectly. Each scene breaks down the adventure in an easy to follow adventure where players can portray their intentions and engage in epic battles. The build itself uses various pieces from different creations and makes it into its own. Loved learning new ways to utilize all the pieces and have enjoyed building this LEGO.
