The building process was easy to follow. It took me several days of dedicated building to finally complete this set, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Some of the building techniques were interesting, and it was very rewarding to see it all come together to make a great replica of the dark tower. Building the base was a bit tedious, as there are a lot of small pieces that all look similar, so I would suggest sorting all of the pieces into color groups after opening each bag, especially in the beginning. The set looks great on display, and all of the minifigures look great! Great that it is made from 3 main sections, which help in build, play, and moving. There are some fun mechanics here, from turning a rock to open the doors, a gear that lowers the skeleton in a cage into fire pit, a hidden chamber opening for Sauron's plans, and the crowning light up and swiveling Eye! The fire 🔥 lava effect is stunning, with jagged rocks. And the tower with all the spikey details is amazing. This was one of the best value for the money, good quality build, and cool functionality. I would rate this a 99/100 if i had to grade it. Only gripe is there are 2 spots blue pieces slightly show through the black, but barely and only looking very close. The quality of the figures, the printed pieces, the functions in the tower, and the sturdiness of the build all surprised me for the value. For though expensive was fair the enormity of the build and the quality of printed pieces. For reference my previous favorite was mos isley set and I am a way bigger Star Wars set, but this tower blew it away. I was not at all embarrassed to tell co-workers and everyone I collect Lego, to display this masterpiece. Many are naturally comparing this with Rivendell, however, that is unfair as they are very different concepts. The Rivendell set certainly succeeds in drawing you in to that peaceful, beautiful haven. Barad-dur should not have that effect upon people. It should be dark and imposing. This set more than succeeds here. I've never owned a set that carries a presence like this one. It truly feels like that great eye is upon you when entering into the room. My only minor quibble relates to the Frodo and Sam minifigures. They are reused from the Rivendell set and thus are visually out of place as they should be more tattered and worn as they approach Mount Doom. However, this complaint by no means diminishes my full recommendation for this set. A set was offered as a gift with its purchase and somehow this gift was out of stock the first day of its release. Of course, you know this gift was supposed to be available the entire week so I purchased the set to receive both the set and the gift only the second day. I did not receive the gift and was offered nothing but apologies. This marketing tactic is despicable and I have never been more disappointed in Lego before. Despite higher prices I have understood the quality of sets has gone up and purchase sets sparingly as I come up with the money. This purchase set me back when I could have simply waited as without the gift I would not have purchased the set yet. Each bag was reasonably sized, and the build order was such that it provided for a fun multi-day build that you could see the dark lord&rsquo;s tower take shape with each bag.
