Wood and fabric and wings. She is a flying machine he said. Really, was it hard to build I asked? No, it was a great build and went together very well. The instructions were clear and the flapping mechanism works great. He showed me the drawings &ndash; looks just like the ones you drew I said. Does it have play value? Yes, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the bright sun taking turns flapping and landing. It shows well and I think he will put it next to another ornithopter that was made last year. Overall, you may want to seek out the Maestro and get your own. I think you will not regret it. What is next I asked. He showed me his Codex Atlanticus and I said, what is that? An aerial screw? He winked at me. Each of the major steps provides you with a fun and unique build experience. The stand build helps in not only the display process, but in utility to build the steps that follow. Wow, and the end step weaves it all together with the creatively engineered string (which is sturdy) to enable the flapping action. Hey, it doubles as a fancy fan for all the Steampunk cosplayers (and the Series 27 Steampunk figure accompanies it so good!). It isn't nearly as complex as I thought it would be. Pace yourself and enjoy the thoughtfully crafted tribute to this Flying Machine. I enjoyed the nuggets of history and the Leonardo da Vinci minifigure is amazing, complete with the sketch brick of the Flying Machine's plans. As an aviation nut this was right up my alley. It took me a couple of hours to assemble. Because of all the moving parts I was constantly going back to the instructions to make sure I got it right and at times it was hard to see the right location of some of the sub-assemblies but with a few go-backs to correct my errors the final result was outstanding - especially the mechanical flapping of the wings.
