I absolutely fell in love with this set. This was a Christmas gift from ages ago, but I never realized just how AWESOME this set is set out to be. It's warm color from the Bookshop itself, and the Apartment's blue color scheme is so great. Some of the building techniques are clever, like using black sausage pieces for the rim of the tree's base, and the use of a fuzzy minifigure boa/scarf piece for the bird's nest. Getting those leaf pieces in bright oranges and yellows are so fun and autumn-y, and those little interiors that have tons of fun details. It looked like a nice, quite slice from the city. And the build did not disappoint. I haven't bought or built a Lego set in nearly 15 years, and with each one I build now I'm impressed by the amount of milage they get out of every piece. A lot of creativity and talent at Lego, and it shows in this set. From the stonework, to the bay window, and even how they connect every room, I couldn't help but smile thinking how much fun the people who designed this must have had. I won't spoil much, as part of the fun for me is seeing how they use pieces in clever ways, but one thing that surprised me was how they used skeleton legs to make the rooftop guardrail on top of Birch Books. That's something I never would have thought of doing, and when put together it fits together seamlessly. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to get back into Lego, and it makes a beautiful display piece as well. That's not to say younger fans of Lego wouldn't have a great time going through the rooms and playing out scenarios with their mini figures. This is also the first set that I've come across that would make a great cooperative build, as both buildings have individual sets of instructions. It would be an enjoyable activity for families, but even couples looking to have a nice project to work on together would enjoy this as well. Great work to the folks at Lego.
Date published: 2021-04-18

Rated 3 out of 5 by Aphrenedge from Subpar modular building I have very mixed feelings about this set. On one hand I love the blue house, it's one of the best looking modulars in my opinion and the highlight of the set. On the other hand this set is all about the bookshop which is really just empty on the inside. There's a real lack of detail and the walls are bare. It really feels unfinished which honestly isn't up to standard considering Lego only produces one set for this series a year. Of the 7 or 8 modulars I built I'd say this is probably at or near the bottom of the list. If you don't have experience with the modulars I'd recommend trying some of the others first before picking this up.
Date published: 2021-04-18

Rated 4 out of 5 by SeamMack1234 from Really fun modular set I got this set for myself earlier this year and the part I most enjoyed was building it. I actually liked how there was two different townhouses in the set. I want to get the police station set so I can link them together and make a little street. Overall it was really fun at first, but then it got a bit boring, because there wasn’t much of a story to it. But I still think you should make more sets like this. Just maybe tone it down on the townhouse and apartments for these builds. Side note: I like how these sets all look like they are set in different eras (eg 30s Bookshop, 40s Police Station, 50s Diner and 60s Corner Garage).
Date published: 2021-03-12

Rated 4 out of 5 by Melan from Cet ensemble a été mon premier Expert. The building experience was quite boring, since every single detail that was used to be in the 'Parisian restaurant' or 'assembly square' was absent in this set. In order for two buildings to be side by side in this bookstore set, many details of the interior have been eliminated, making this set seemed to be designed in rush/carelessness. I received it as a gift for myself because I love bookstores, but my child immediately loved it and described it best - "I feel like I shrank and am inside!" I really enjoyed building the stone arch above the bookstore entrance, and the bay window and roof on the townhouse. I got it after I completed the 2021 police station. Before the purchase I was aware the review of this product is not as amazing, when I finish the last brick of this set, I understood why: 1. It feels small. 2. Building technique is repetitive. 3. Only 2 floors vs most 3 floors for other modular sets. Overall, this set is only valuable to me because it's a modular set. If I didn't want to collect them I would not bother to get this one. The exterior of this set is great, especially from the front. The vibrate blue colours of the townhouse, and the brown/red/grey/green of the bookshop add an autumn feel to the whole set. The interior to this set is reasonably detailed, with the bookshop having an ample selection of books, but could have used a few more considering it is a bookshop. There a only a few printed pieces that represent books, and I feel there could have been more effort here to add some depth to the detail. The detail in the ground floor of the townhouse is excellent, and the bed build on the second floor is probably the best I've seen. The top two floors of the bookshop are a bit strange, and the space and detail used seem to be a bit overlooked. I'm not sure if the top floor is supposed to be a living space for the owner, but if thats the case it doesnt have a bathroom or kitchen facilities! The top floor of the townhouse is a bit of a mess as well, as the back half simply becomes a balcony instead of a good size space that could have been used for a bathroom, and would have made more logical sense. The backside of this set is a real negative, and it has very little detail, just a little garden and some steps on the townhouse. If you compare the back to a set like the Diner, then it is pretty lacking in depth and detail. There are some other glaring negatives about this set, the basement could have easily been one brick higher in height, as the minifigures are too tall to fit properly inside, and the townhouse overall is a very short building. Some of the building techniques and structure decisions on both rooves of the buildings left me puzzled and dissapointed, and they are also structurely unsound in places. The tree in this set has seen a lot of negative reaction, and while it is a cool build, it does take up a lot of room, and has you commiting to a autumn season for the set. Overall, it is a modest addition to the modular collection, and is still worth picking up if you are a fan of the series. It is however without its flaws in several areas. Pros: + Strong exterior design + Some strong and detailed interior builds + Some interesting building techniques + Very colourful + Having two seperate buildings gives you options on where to place them in a city Cons: - Strange choices in structural design - Doesn't really add anything massively important to a city - Lacking in detail in some areas - Autumn design may not blend well with other modulars - The tree is overly large and hides the bookshop a bit too much - Back of the set is sparse with little features
Date published: 2021-01-09

Rated 5 out of 5 by Legomansans from Bookshop Amazing build looks amazing on my desk with the Parisian restaurant only issue I had was missing a few pieces but I've been building since I was little and just thought it out and found ways that you cant tell
Date published: 2021-01-05

Rated 5 out of 5 by JBuilder from Beautiful Build The Bookshop modular building is a great addition to any city or a great display on a bookshelf! I always appreciate when there are new building techniques and design features in the build, and this set doesn't disappoint. I particularly like the way the roof sections come apart/open for play. Very clever. I really like the apartment entry stairs and the wood shingle type roof design as well. I'm not a fan of the dark turquoise/teal color, but I do understand the point was to try to blend into the two most recent modulars. It seems to me a few small details were missing from the exterior (like a light fixture on the apartment patio), but those were easy fixes. I do also wish the bookstore had come with more internal features. I immediately modified the interior to make it more like small bookstores, brimming with books everywhere. The bedroom on the top floor seemed out of place as well. Overall, though, it's a great build.
Date published: 2021-01-03

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trelinac from Très bon set, je le recommande. The dark greens, lush browns and gold tiles create a real bookshop 'feel'. The subtle touches tie in with the Autumn setting with great effect - yellow & orange leafs on the ground, a pumpkin growing in the garden ready for Old Hallow's Eve. But it's always the little details that make this theme stand out: the black armchair, "Moby Brick", a warm fire place. Though it is a shame that the Grandfather clock can't be easily detached from the interior wall. To my surprise, an extra Lego minifigure's head popped up in bag 6 whilst building the house. It appears to belong to a ghoul or ghost from the hidden side theme. An intriguing feature given the set's setting around Hallowe'en season! Overall, this was an enjoyable build, if your relatively new - or returning to Lego after a long time - I would go for this set.
Date published: 2020-12-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by GustaveGustave from Very enjoyable experience I absolutely loved building this set, it wasn’t too challenging & the design of the set is immaculate.
Date published: 2020-12-31

Rated 5 out of 5 by BrickBiulder5624 from Cool Biulding My son loved biulding this set. I did have two very specific problems; the tree and the arch. The tree is not the most attractive so I resorted to replacing it with some flowers. My problem with the arch is that it is just a little fidgety so it's not too big of a deal. Overall, a very nice looking set.
Date published: 2020-12-18

Rated 2 out of 5 by aidancacher from Bookshop Review I absolutely adore the Modular Series. I have loved everyone of them going all the way back to the beginning. They have been challenging, fun, and I am always blown away by the original building techniques that the designer employs to make the build unique. This is the first modular lego that I did not feel was creative and unique. The facade of the bookshop is nice and the spiral staircase is cool. However, nothing else warranted praise. The back of the build is bland, and the side of the apartment building with the fireplace shown is an eyesore. While the birch tree was pretty, it did not fit with the build or the other modulars. It's too much of a distraction. The building is stout which makes me wonder where the pieces that could have been used to raise the height have gone. That's right, into the double interior wall. I don't know why it was decided to take a step backwards and not integrate the two build together like how it was done in the Detective's Office. Overall, this build did not live up to the reputation of the modular build series and was a clear disappointment.
Date published: 2020-12-16

Rated 5 out of 5 by chris999999 from just great absolutely amazing modular which is back in european style, the exterior is just great, interior is okay level, overall a must have for european style lovers!!!
Date published: 2020-11-26

Rated 5 out of 5 by Valerian70 from Novel I am a huge fan of the modular builds so it was a no brainer for me to get this one when I saw it. Especially as before I started being obsessed with Lego I was an avid reader - definitely past tense as I haven't picked a book up for about 3 months now which is so not me. Anyhow, on to the actual review. There are lots and lots of little details within the buildings themselves and, for me, discovering those is what makes the build really exciting for me. I don't really research a kit before buying it or examine all the pack images omce it is in my sweaty little hands so builds like this with loads of little internal details make me "squee" whilst building. Definitely lots of that going on with this build. First off the external looks of this set are excellent and I even like that pesky Birch Tree (although I would have liked a set of optional green "leaves" for it instead of it being permanentily autumn). Nice to have an actual residence next to the store instead of just retail outlets, depending on how you display your modulars you could separate them out as they just Technic pin together. The internal stairs in the Bookshop are built, which I always enjoy. Yes, it is repetitive but something soothing about doing the same motions again and again to produce a finished look. They also look better finished than the premoulded ones. Even better there are NO STICKERS! Where detailing is needed it is preprinted - heaven for my sausage fingers. The reason being, I wish this set had been a stand-alone building of the bookshop rather than compromising so much by adding a second building. The compromises are pretty sever, especially for the teal townhouse, which is lacking a bathroom, a kitchen and the basement is more of a crawl space. This is suppose to be a home, but lacks the basic necessities of a house. The bookshop itself suffers from the same disappointing compromises as the bookshop, but on top of not having a bathroom or a kitchen, the bookshop suffers from a lack of books and bookshelves. I like how the bookshop exterior building looks and the colors. I also like how the townhouse looks, but I REALLY dislike the teal color. The teal seems to really clash with the warm colors of the bookshop. The build techniques are fine and the set was enjoyable to build. I love bookshops, and I got this set because of that love. But I DON'T love this set. I would had loved this set if the designers didn't make any compromises by just sticking to one building, the bookshop. I would had loved to had seen a fully realized bookshop with at least two isles of bookshelves, glass cabinets displaying rare books, a bathroom, and a backroom or office. This set is such a missed opportunity, as I have seen builders who purchased two of these sets to built a full bookshop building. I'm not going to double dip for something the designers should had done in the first place though.
Date published: 2020-10-24

LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop 10270 (2504 pieces) Reviews - page 6

y_2025, m_5, d_9, h_11

bvseo_bulk, prod_bvrr, vn_bulk_3.0.42

cp_5, bvpage2n

co_hasreviews, tv_5, tr_205

loc_en_CA, sid_147FFB7D, prod, sort_[SortEntry(order=SUBMISSION_TIME, direction=DESCENDING)]

clientName_toysrus-ca

bvseo_sdk, dw_cartridge, 18.2.0, p_sdk_3.2.0

CLOUD, getReviews, 10ms

reviews, product
