I like these compared to the old road plates because they are not as wide. I use these for my modular city so i do not need a sidewalk on my road plate. I like that you can reconfigure them anyway you need and that it includes a crosswalk with traffic lights and light poles. To be honest, the whole glow on the dark bricks just dont. . They are higher than the modular baseplates but i put a piece of black dollarstore foamboard cut to the 32x32 baseplate of my modulars and put them on top of it. You cant see it, all the houses still connect and it looks proper being a tile higher than the road. Could there be curved pieces? I guess but im happy not having wasted space with xtra sidewalk.

There are so many issues with this new road system that I don't even know where to start. Here are the highlights:
1. The roads do no curve
2. The roads are not compatible with baseplates and are not compatible with other buildings built on baseplates (keep in mind that LEGO is still selling buildings that use baseplates)
3. The roads are far more expensive than traditional baseplates, yet they are more narrow and offer less flexibility than baseplates.
4. based on the number of negative reviews, clearly many other LEGO users are not happy with this transition.
LEGO, please go back to selling baseplates and sets that are compatible with the traditional baseplates.

I've been building up my vast Legoland since 1980, and these road plates stink on ice. They don't mesh with the baseplates buildings are built on. You can't connect them to the baseplates because the road plates have a different height that doesn't line up even if you add flat bricks. They sit half a flat brick higher than the normal baseplates. How do you connect things that do not line up with everything else!?!?!?
I hope whoever came up with and approved these road plates has been reassigned.
If you're still gonna make these, at least bring back the old road plates so we have a choice. Preferably the ones from the '90s that had grass on each side of the road.

A Welcome New Beginning
For many years Lego has produced both baseplates and road plates and have been used by fans of every age. However, these road plates have very little flexibility and use aside roads.
These new plates provide an excellent way to not only easily construct roads but the piece itself is very versatile and can be used in various ways. For example, it could be used for a makeshift wall, a base for a Star Wars hangar bay or even roof top coverings for modular buildings. Their small size allows for easy storage when they're not in use and their wide availability in the current city wave means they are plentiful for any wishing to make the switch from road plates.
I hope these road pieces will continue to be available going forward providing a sophisticated shine to any Lego town or city.

These new ones fall apart too easily on carpet, the old ones did too but I would estimate for every 1 old plate you need 4 new plates which is a lot of fixing!
Playability is excellent and my son loves it, until it falls apart that is! Compared to the old ones I would say the new ones are more playable and feel like a toy rather than an accessory.
Also as others have said the scale is slightly out and they need to be wider.

Nice looking set and display piece.
I bought this mostly to display my various vehicles on. It has some neat details with two road signs and two street lights. There are no stickers and quite a few printed pieces, which is a huge plus for me. They have some plants and trees for visual appeal, and it was fun to place my cars on it and snap some quick pictures.
It is also modular with the road being in 4 sections you can sort of move around. You can have a turn, a big straightway, or a junction.
The only real complaint was the foilage. You get two trees and two flowers. With the road signs you have two fairly bare green plates that simulate grass. Some more plants would have really made that set pop, but for the price I was very happy with what it provided.

Better than expected, and nice value
I was skeptical of these plates because I knew they were a different height from the older model. My opinion changed when I saw how much was in the box, and how much my son enjoyed deigning his street. There's actually a nice mix of pieces in the box. I completely understand the criticism of these plates versus the other ones, but for young builders just starting out or new cities, these are good.
The perspective of my 7-year-old son:
The good thing about these road plates is if you have the tiles, you can link buildings to the side, plus it has street lights that have a glow-in-the-dark piece. They do not glow super bright, but you can see them when the lights are off and they’re a cool addition to my city. I also like these road plates because the speed bumps give my city character. These plates also come with things like street posts to put on the side.

I had a handful of the old road baseplates, so I wasn't too heavily invested before this change.
However, I have seen others complain about these, namely that the height is different and therefore it screws up their existing cities.
Personally, I have not found it difficult to simply put these on a baseplate, and then raise everything else up by one plate or two so it all matches.
I find these roads to be much more dynamic, and allow me to make better use of my limited space to display my modular city setup. I'm looking forward to building up more of them as I can afford to, and make my town as complete as possible.
Moreover, I think these are probably more fun for kids.

Great product (if play on hard surface)
I want to start with the fact that I love this set, however there are some glaring issues with it that cause me to give it a lower score than you might this with that opening. I would give it 3.5 if I could, but I rounded up. I could see this as amazing if you have a city on a table, but try to play with it on the carpet and you will spend more time mending it than playing with it. This can be remedied by adding some bricks to the bottom, but they are not really fully made for that. Would be nice if there was a groove to put them in. Though you could put them on a large plate (like you see in my pictures). What that all boils down to is the fact that though you could fix the issue, it would take a lot of additions to do it.
The set is an amazing price and has some unique parts that I love like the glow in the dark bricks and the street signs. Also, if I ever do create a city on a hard table I will most likely get a bunch if these for the roads. But till then, I'm gonna figure out the most cost effective way to use this on carpet.

Fun, Flexible and Fantastic
I thought I would buy a couple of these to see what the fuss was about and WOW! This new road system is so much fun and true to what Lego is all about – imagination and creativity.
Playability – My 5-year-old daughter loves them and had so much fun driving around the roads. The traffic lights, zebra crossing and road signs included add so much to the play factor as well as being educational.
Compatibility – We immediately added the petrol station and a Speed Champions Mini garage (and since a hospital and airport terminal) and they looked fantastic and were easy to integrate. Though the baseplates are narrow we have used the spare tiles wisely to add an extra stud to either lane and the road copes with 6 stud vehicles easily.
Creativity – The big jump forward here is the flexibility that is only limited by your imagination. Dual lanes? Center barrier? Floral displays on the barrier? Drains? Manhole covers? Car parks? Paths/sidewalks? Up to you!
Value – If it was just the baseplates then it would be poor value for money, but the accessories make sure that you can make a ‘real’ feeling road out of the box and they add so much that you feel you get your money’s worth.
Difficulty – They are easy to assemble and are very stable, but it takes an enjoyable amount of effort and planning to get the best out of them in terms of a working layout. The new flexibility is fantastic but it makes you think!
Overall, a wonderful revolution in road building. Highly recommended.

Terrible value
So few pieces for so much money (as compared to most other sets; plus there's zero licence branding costs in such a set; and no minifigures). Children have to save double or triple the money to add these roads to their sets (as compared to previous road plates or road playmats).

The Possibilities are Endless
Honestly, I’m so much happier with these new road plates. They take up far less space for city builders, leaving more room for buildings, and there are so many ways they can be utilised/interconnected/added to... This feels much more in the spirit of LEGO. I just hope we get more 16x8 plain roads down the line to level out all the crossings!
