On the other hand shipping was a mess. Toysrus put them in a huge box with little padding so they knocked around during shipping and a few of the corners got bent. It was large enough for us to create a 32 x 32 chess board to go on top of it. If you glued two of these plates or four of these plates together, you could create a really awesome LEGO coffee table surface or side table w/ shelving/storage underneath it. I feel that it should be at as thick as one of the larger flat pieces to better hold what is built in it. It would also be nice being thicker to be able to have the holes on the back to be usable to make a thicker base for appearances. Also to be able to link the baseplates together to make an even larger base for the kits with larger foot prints. for example, my Robie House model is too long for the largest baseplate - I will need two of them to hold the model. With thicker baseplates and using part #4211390 to make a sturdy sandwich base and the parts(similar to #4211387) that have holes and with the parts #4514553(as an example) to join them together like the city blocks would make the baseplate more usable. It mike'd at barely 0.050 of an inch, you would think for $15 they could of added a little plastic to them. They are so useful to build mosaics (which I build often). I have built mosaics for Sherlock Holmes, Culver's restaurant, Pepsi, Costco, RDO Truck Centers, and many others. They are also useful for building sculptures on. I have built a giant 1 ft. tall x 2 ft. wide Wells Fargo Stagecoach, a 1 and a half Winnie the Pooh and a large chef. The baseplates were very useful for these purposes. Most of my sculptures are made up of 2,000 to 6,000 bricks, so they are very heavy. These keep my things together.
