We only wish there was a slight delay to the countdown so there was more time to get little fingers ready to launch, especially if only one person was racing both cars. We have started down the play set route to get his cars off the shelves and onto the tracks. As he so eloquently put it, &ldquo;racing cars is fun.&rdquo; He seems to favor the competitive sets in which someone (i.e. he) wins and someone (aka me) loses. So we gave the Dragstrip Champion set a whirl. The set contains 14 pieces that my son was able to assemble himself with little intervention. There is a dual car launcher, a &ldquo;Christmas tree&rdquo; starter, a finishing flag, and 6 lengths of track (with connectors). In mere minutes, he was in the burnout boxes with his race face on for a bye run. (At least, I think that&rsquo;s what he said.) To use the set, pull back on the spring loaded launchers to lock them in place and load the cars. (The set only comes with one car, so you will need to grab another from your collection if you want to go head-to-head.) Lift and release a lever on the starter to start the countdown. When the lever hits the bottom, gates lift to allow the cars to pass. Hitting the launch button too early sends the car into the gate, ending its race before it began. Timed correctly, the cars shoot past the gate down the track. The first car at the finish trips a flag, allowing identification of the winner. My son really likes the anticipation of launching the cars during the countdown. However, it is a little hard for him to lock the launchers. There is a significant resistance, which is needed to launch the cars with speed. Also, it can be a challenge for two people to press the launch buttons simultaneously as the two lanes are a little too close to each other. Hands often collide, although that may just be part of racing. Finally, the flag at the end occasionally drops by itself, declaring a winner before a car passes. (This only seems to be problem when I am tagged as the winner, though. He doesn&rsquo;t mind when the flag falls in his favor.) Overall, he enjoys this set and has added it to his regular rotation. It fires the hotwheels cars quite fast and a long way (they run off the track and hit a wall some 5 feet away at considerable speed.) It was very easy to assemble and easy enough to operate that even our 2 year can do it (with a bit of help.) There are only a few minor draw backs: 1) The checkered flag sits somewhat delicately so that even moving on the floor tends to cause it to &quot;tilt&quot; before the cars are even launched. 2) The race countdown can be a bit finicky to get up to the top. It doesn't stay there either (by design) so you can't set it up in advance. Once you finally get it to the top of the sign it just falls immediately. We had a similar straight away set that was an old hand me down and this was a fantastic update to that! A set with two launchers in a house with multiple kids is always a win! It has a very simple but interactive countdown clock that the kids loved using! It comes with a decent amount of track and connectors as well as one car. The best part is the checkered flag at the finish line that actually tells you which lane won! My kids, 6 and 8, had hours of fun designing race tracks when this first arrived. They even were able to add an additional launcher we already owned so little sister could join in the fun! The set was easy to build since everything snapped into place, and the stickers were easily applied. We also had extra Hot Wheels track and they connected perfectly. My son and daughter love to drag race each other to see who is faster and they both use different Hot Wheels to experiment which car is faster. He wins most of the time. The parts are well made. I was afraid that the checkered flag would break since it didn't seem too secure but so far, it is still attached and works well. Both of my girls literally squealed with joy throughout their time playing with it. As a mom, I also like how surprisingly active the involved play is. The kids are more than happy to get up and chase down the cars when they fly off the drag strip. We found the count down to be simple and easy to activate. It also doesn't feel like it will break anytime soon. The flag mechanism is really really cool for telling who won the race (hello sibling rivalry), but is slightly difficult to get set and feels a bit slight. We noticed improvements in the connections between track pieces and appreciated that as well as the launch system being easier to use and more powerful than previous systems. A couple things to note are that not all hot wheels can fit, even an action series car from another set flips off the track every time. It might take some trial &amp; error, but that's part of the fun. But unfortunately, more than 75% of the time, cars blow through the flag gate and the flag doesn't drop at all, or the flag falls on the wrong side when the other car beat it through by a mile. Still arguing and debating winners on practically every race. I also have an only child, which makes playing my 5 yr old a little unfair since I beat her off the line every time. Switched it out with a single click double launcher that gives a fair and equal start, but flag is still an issue at end of the race.
