We took it to work with us today where I work with 3/4 year olds in a school. The children were mesmerised watching the eggs hatch. It kept the excited and focused, they couldn't wait to see what hatched next. Once they were all hatched they loved feeding them and playing with them. They made dens and beds for them with the bricks. Even she was disappointed with this. The eggs are larger than the others she has had, but the toys are smaller, the majority of the egg is taken up by the tissue bit that absorbs the water to make the toy crack open the egg. After the initial excitement of seeing who you have, my 9 year old was a bit sad looking at all the plastic. None of it is recyclable, and they little toys themselves are just ok, you can't really do anything with them. Disappointed and also a bit sad I've added to the plastic problem. Firstly the box is quite large and makes it look like you are getting ten eggs, but it's misleading you only get five eggs and a few very tiny pieces. Not suitable for over three year olds as stated on the package. My little girl loved how each egg opened but once you have done that its pretty much done unless you have the other play set. Clever design and fun. The reason for the 3 stars is cartons are getting less and less eggs to open and more &quot;accessories&quot; also cartons are now all the same. There is no real surprise or mystery to what is inside. A colored illustration would have caught the kids attention better. Despite the excitement that might have occured with the original hatching, my girls love the little hatchimals. Unfortunately they also wanted the Hatchimal house (not included) and we struggled to find it in store to see what it would look like before buying. The girls like that they have little instruments with the characters, that they are beautiful and the fact they can be stored in their little carton. I appreciate the detail in the characters and the fact the kids get 5 characters to play with (sharing is fun with enough characters!). The egg carton contained five eggs, and the egg carton doubles as a stage for the mini figures after hatching. My six year old son and three year old daughter shared the experience of hatching the animals together, taking turns. There are two methods of hatching the eggs, either feeding it with the bottle or dipping it in a cup of water, so we did two eggs each with the bottle method and one attempt with the dipping method. The bottle method was definitely preferred by both kids, so I'd recommend just sticking with that method. The dipping method hatched the eggs extremely quickly. My 6 year old had no issues with loading the baby bottle with water and &quot;feeding&quot; the egg. My three year old needed assistance loading the bottle but absolutely loved &quot;feeding&quot; the egg. My son was disappointed that the eggs themselves would need to be disposed of after opening. That is a downside to this product and the reason I dropped one star from the review. However, that was quickly forgotten and both kids returned to playing with the mini figures. It's been about a week since we've hatched the animals, and my daughter especially keeps returning to these mini figures to play with them. She loves to put what she calls &quot;her babies&quot; back to sleep in their egg carton. It's super sweet to watch her play with them. I had 3 out of 4 of my children try this (12 year old, 9 year old and 6 year old). All of the children had so much fun and it was absolutely SO easy to do. Watching the eggs crack open had all of them doing the &quot;ouu&quot; and &quot;awww&quot; and then the burst of excitement over what character they got inside.
