Thanks for reaching out! The Graco 4 EVER All in one Convertible car seat has a 10 year useful life. We have no way of knowing the manufacture date when purchased online. The only way to ensure a newer date is to purchase in store, where there is a white sticker located on the outside of the box with model number and manufacture date. We hope this helps! Graco team

Why can you keep the baby rear facing till 40lbs if at 22lbs you turn the seat around? Can I keep my baby rear facing in this seat till 40lbs or until their legs are scrunched or do I have to switch it around at 22lbs?

The minimum age and weight requirements for forward facing are 1 year old and 22 pounds, however the 4Ever allows for children to ride rear facing until 40 pounds or until there is less than one inch of space between the top of the child's head and the height adjustment handle when the headrest is fully extended.
