However, the latch is very tricky to use when you know how to use it, and almost impossible to figure out for guests and deliveries. The top part has to be slid back - that part is easy to see - but then the gate needs to be lifted straight up while continuing to hold the sliding part back. There is nothing intuitive about that and even when I posted instructions on the top of the gate, I have had guests give up and climb awkwardly over the gate. Also, even for those of us who know how to use it, it can be difficult - I can only imagine if you had arthritis or something! It was easy to install the hardware to attach/set it up. The door is just what we needed and it opens and closes quietly. It's super easy to use one handed too. My son is prerry tall and this gate is taller then he can fully reach yet which is great since he's a climber! The top to bottom bars help with that as well ensuring he can't step up to reach the top and try to climb away. I did seem to forget we had to step over the bottom bar a few times when we first set it up, so I would trip walking through the gate. We'll just blame that on pregnancy brain though! My husband took a bright colored pool noodle, cut it to size, cut that part in half and put it on the bottom bar. It doesn't interfere with the door opening or closing but it does make you look before going through the gate. It has been such a life safer. It is high enough that it is very difficult to climb over, the bars also make it very hard to climb up, which was a big concern of ours, as he is a climber. The metal gate is very pretty and makes the house look elegant while providing safety from the stairs. It fits very well in our space, is easy to install (follow the directions), and is easy to open and close. Since then I have been testing it and have been beyond shocked to find I could open the gate when pulling on the handle without pressing down on the bar. This all happened while the gate was in the green/locked position. Now the handle won't ever fully close and the most I can get is a mostly green/slight red on the latch. This is beyond worrisome as this gate is at the top of a flight of stairs, and I have an 18 month old. We've only used this gate for six months and all of this has occurred within that time frame. This gate is sturdy and stylish. The directions for set up were very unclear and i actually thought that the gate was defective. The pressure mounting caps on the end are not meant to click in, they actually can slide in and out freely making me wonder and unable to figure out based on the directions, how to get the pressure mounting to tighten. It wasn't until i mentioned the situation to another mom who had a similar gate of a different brand that told me how they were to be used (they had much clearer directions). With this new knowledge i set to install the gate only to find that, at no fault of Evenflo's, this gate simply didn't work for the was our stairs were set up. We have a landing and a banister that sits up on a ledge to work around. I had high hopes that with the individually adjusting pressure mounts this would be the perfect gate for us however the pressure mounts didn't extend far enough to be used on the landing side and the banister wasn't sturdy enough the use at the bottom of the stairs. Again this is no fault of the gate just simply how my house is set up. The Evenflo Multi-Use D&eacute;cor Tall Walk-Thru Gate is an amazing product. It looks stylish in my house and keeps everyone out of my office. I love that it is tall enough so that my older daughter cannot open it. In order to open this gate, you have to slide the button and then lift up and push the gate. This is a great feature if you have kids (or dogs) that have previously learned to open gates by just pushing or pulling them hard enough. So far my kids (and incredibly smart huskies) have not figured out how to open it. Another awesome feature of this gate is the small latch on the bottom to the gate which restricts which way the gate can be opened. I imagine this would be particularly helpful if the gate was at the top of the stairs and you only want it to open one way. I found it helpful as a second precaution to keep my children and animals from trying to push it open. They can&rsquo;t push it if it only opens one way. As for ease of use, this gate is a breeze to use. It comes with two extender panels to fit a space up to 48&rdquo; and also comes with the pressure mounts and brackets (for staircase use). It took me about 5 minutes to take it out the box and set it up. The gate&rsquo;s open and close mechanism is intuitive for adults and works perfectly.
