I did TONS of searching for just the right gate and thought this was THE one. I was very wrong. One issue is that it presents online as being a tension gate but it requires you to screw a cap into the wall for a snug fit and doesn't tension in like expected, it screws not pulls/pops into place. That was unexpected, as we'd hoped to avoid damage to our newly built home. Next, the gate is listed as spanning a wide range that easily fit the bill for our doorway at the top of the steps in terms of the minimum and maximum. What they don't say is that there are two extension pieces, one fits up to a certain width where the next one starts. Our doorway, due to moulding around the baseboards, is one width up top and a different one in the bottom, a 3-4 inch difference. The top was too wide for the short extension piece and the bottom was too narrow for the long extension piece because the widths fell near the max/min of the two different pieces. We ended up cutting chunks of wood to put between the rods and the wall to fill the gaps and make this work. During this we got 3 of the 4 rods lined up and discovered the final issue. The reason the 4th one wouldn't line up was because the gate was bent. By this point we'd invested so much and NEEDED a gate like a week or two ago, so we weren't going to try to send it back. We're stuck with a gate that's finagled to work (fingers crossed!) with our new little explorer. What a frustrating process!
