They are entirely made of plastic. I think I would have liked them to have real hair, but then I'd go crazy trying to keep the natural hair from fizzing. I also would have liked if their tails had an extra bend in it close to where the tail splits to help them sit better, as the arm lengths don't match and they tip to the side easily. My 6 year old LOVES them! The dolls are plastic with rubbery fins, and are roughly 4 inches from head to tail, give or take. Each doll bends at the waist and has basic points of articulation at the neck and shoulder to let the heads and arms move. The sculpts and paint are well done and varied for each character. You get seven different mermaids. I recognize Ariel, haven't seen the movie so not sure the names of the rest of the dolls. And just like Ariel, these toys are fun for land or sea. They are entirely made of plastic and slightly moldable - fins move. We used them in the bath tub as bath toys and it was a huge hit with my four year old and seven year olds. There are enough dolls in the set for multiple children to play together and to be engaged for a decent amount of time - a half hour for us!
