The driver moves on its own. The tractor is great quality and made to last. You can use the driver on the tractor in different spots. Out of everything our 3-year-old had for his birthday he only wanted to play with this! It comes with a fun play power drill that's a cute version of an adult's power drill. It turns clockwise and counterclockwise. The wheels come off and go back on and he does this over and over. The other points when you move them with the drill they do different things like moving the wheels and sounds. Really cool cause and effect. He loves to pull the drill out when I've got mine out too, just like dad. It's great how the drill can actually function with the excavator to take off the wheels and put them back on. One thing we didn't like was that the sound is blaringly loud. We had to cover the speaker with a piece of tape. I have 3 kids from 2 years of age to 7 and they have all enjoyed this toy so much. They love taking the wheels off and the drill that is very realistic. It&rsquo;s a great size and doesn&rsquo;t have really small pieces which makes it great for the younger kids. The sounds and voice box are clear and loud and the pieces unscrew and screw back on fast and easily. It&rsquo;s a great toy to develop coordination and learning skills. My children all love playing with it. The colors are vibrant. Which seems to draw my kids to want to play with it. The sounds are designed very well with this toy. It really helps your child's imagination to expand. I feel this is a toy that keeps them wanting to play. My kids love this. They are ages 4-10 and they all love playing with it. They love making the excavator make noise and they will make even more noise with it. They have made this a daily toy they play with. It gets a lot of playtime with them. This keeps them busy. As far as durability, my boys have thrown, slammed, and dropped this many times. It has withstood them being rambunctious. The packaging was easy to open and it held it securely. The kids were eager to play with it. They were trying to play with it before I opened it. This is not a heavy toy which makes it easy for their little hand to grab onto and move around. I highly recommend this for anybody that has children. I think boys or girls would thoroughly enjoy this. First of all, only the back two tires can be removed from the excavator, not any of the other pieces. The other screws do have some functions, such as raising and lowering the excavator arm and winding up the front wheels so that it can drive by itself. But the drill bit on the tool doesn't grab the screws well enough for those to function properly. Also, the drill bit has some programmed sayings, which are fine, but it just seems way too loud for a little kid.
