We love the classic battleship, but we are a family of six, so this makes it so much better that we can all play together at once. It was easy enough for the younger ones to understand and be able to play (as long as they can recognize letters and numbers), but not so simple that it&rsquo;s boring. It&rsquo;s fun with the younger kids, and it has an advance mode that can make it even more fun if you&rsquo;re playing with adults or adults and older kids. The game board and peg system is perfect so that everyone can have a visual. And the cards with the stands that you can put pegs in are perfect for keeping track of your own ships. And I love that the board provides storage for the pegs that actually clicks together and holds them in place! It's a bit of a chaos to figure out at first but the game play is quick. I do like that you can play with multiple people versus one on one. There's also an advanced play which was fun as well. They love to play it with anyone who will. However, it has always been limited to 2 people. This reinventing of the game for more players is excellent! I wondered at first how it would work, but instead of 2 people with different boards, there is 1 board, and you use cards that list your ships and coordinates. One person rolls the dice and that's how many shots they get to take - 1, 2 or 3. Then they pick coordinates and if anyone in the group has a ship there, it's a hit. Once you have sunk the ship, you put new pegs in to mark that it's sunk, and that person's ship card is removed from play. The last one with ships is the winner. It works great for our 4-person family and everyone gets to play. There is even an advanced mode with instructions for a more difficult game play for people who want more of a challenge. When you get 3 shots, you have to pick the 3 coordinates at the same time before knowing if you hit anyone. Both versions are a blast! I really like the way the gameboard was built also so that it is compact for storing, but opens up and hooks together differently during game play. That was very impressive and took some thought. Overall, this game is amazing and fun for up to 6 people. The hardest part of the game is not accidentally hitting your own ships, and making sure everyone is paying attention when you name coordinates. It turns the classical battleship game into a family version. There are two tracks of playing: standard and advanced. The cards dictate where your ships are located. The first game went very well and we enjoyed all around. But with a brainy family member and only a limited number of cards, it was soon clear that this game could be hacked. For example, the ship locations of the cards do not overlap on any cards. Therefore, If you remember from a previous round that a ship is located at J1-J4, then as soon as you call out J4 and get a hit, you automatically know that J1-J3 are hits as well instead of guess I4 or J5. Additionally, if you remember which cards you discarded, you also know where not to guess. My husband has never played Battleship before, so this was his first experience. It is different from the original game. You don't have actual ships that you put on your own gameboard. There are cards that you randomly pick which tell you where your ships are on the one shared gameboard. There are different types/colored pegs that you place on the gameboard depending if it is a &quot;hit&quot;, &quot;miss&quot;, or &quot;sink&quot;. One piece of advice: Do not accidentally call out a spot that your own ship is on. It will be marked as a &quot;miss&quot; on the gameboard because no other player will have it and the other players will never be able to guess where your ship is. But, I guess that's a way to ensure your win!
