Showing people with disabilities can be challenging and this product makes a stance as well as a great collector with the Malibu shirt. Overall this product is great for play and a collection. The first thing she noticed were the white splotches all over him. So my wife educated her on how some people are born different and explained that doesn't change who they are as a person. My granddaughter hasn't stopped playing with the ken doll since she's opened it. I really like how mattel has came up with the dolls such as this one to help educate our youth on how everyone is different. While it's similar to most Barbie Ken dolls she has already, she loved his outfit especially and thought it was perfect for the beach! So adorable when she said it. (Goes Perfectly With Her Barbie Beach House!) But what makes this doll particularly enjoyable as a parent is because with this version of Ken, he has a skin condition called &quot;Vitiligo&quot;. I was waiting for her to ask about his unique skin color so I could explain it to her in a way to satisfy her curiosity in the best possible way. This is a great way for a parent to explain people's differences in a fun and educational way. Thanks MATTEL for making a BARBIE KEN doll like this! Made it so easy to approach the subject with her. She has a level of understanding regarding this skin condition she normally wouldn't. As a parent, that's so important. He clearly suffers from vitiligo. This is a teaching opportunity to parents everywhere to show that being different is normal. My daughter is 3 and she noticed his difference. However, we spoke about it and how sometimes you can see peoples differences. We should never treat them as less than because of that. Ken is now a regular play item and she is no longer concerned about his looks. Yes, he is a different toy but to her, he is just a toy to be friends with Barbie.
