They really are great for a while spread age group. Little ones can easily stack with the magnets and older kiddos can be more precise in their placement and builds. My little one is too young to be able to accurately construct the plane so I assist there. I love these sets but unfortunately he becomes very aggravated with this set because when he picks it up to make it soar, it falls apart. I think my daughter enjoys clicking the blocks together repeatedly just as much as she enjoys building and playing with the blocks. They spin, they promote counting, and they encourage her gross motor skills. They were able to quickly figure out how to assemble the plane on their own. I thought this was super cool and loved the idea of them quickly connecting via magnets. My 2 year old tried to fly the plane as he does any toy and the magnets wouldn't hold, Each time he lifted the plane, it completely fell apart. I even have been talking about and sharing how wonderful they are with my son&rsquo;s therapists so they can get and use them. There are different strength magnets in the main block and the smaller pieces that attach to make the vehicle or put together however you want. The main block has a stronger magnet in it so the other magnet pieces stick to it best. The smaller attachment pieces have a weaker magnet, so it does not stay as well and you cannot hold it my the smaller piece and move it around and have it stay, but you can from the larger block. Our solution was to get the other set that has more of the big blocks to play with because things stay attached to the blocks. Because of the different strengths, it is easy enough with the resistance for a child under 1, which is probably why it was made that way. My 5 year old loves these blocks the most, and used them for numbers, counting, number recognition, stacking, manipulating and putting together in different patterns, and the best part is that they stick together. We put the plane together and tried to pick it up and roll it and it just falls apart because the magnets are not strong enough to hold the pieces together. My child lost interest very quickly.
