They sit together connecting it and putting it together making a maze for the marble to rush down in. They take turns and have fun playing as siblings. They immediately got to work on building. I assisted with the first couple instructions but after that the kiddos took over and had a blast building the rest. My children all enjoy playing with this all together to come up with fun games and configurations. My kids are 8,6,4, and 18 months and they all have an absolute blast playing with this exciting toy! The instructions were clear and overall it was easy to put together. Some of the pieces are a bit flimsy, so do keep that in mind when your children are playing, as it can come apart wth rough play. (Honestly, that's with any toy of the nature, so it's to be expected.) This is a toy that I feel good about letting my kids play with because it encourages learning through play, as in cause and effect, building, etc...the pieces can be moved to create different paths for the marbles encouraging stimulation of their young brains! Very happy with this toy by V Tech! It's interactive and both my toddlers love it. However the pieces do not snap together tight so any slight touch/hit to it will knock it over. She liked watching where the marbles would end up. This was my first time with a marble run of any kind and at her age she liked just the beginning level but to have the option of having multiple start points was fun for her brother to step in and play too. The directions were beneficial in that they were in color and had an aerial view as well as a grid with letters and numbers to help you with proper placement of the pieces. The pieces were thick plastic and were easy to snap together. It held well after it snapped together but I was not worried about it breaking off or cracking when I was pulling the piece back a part to put away for the day. My favorite part about this toy is that they can build up to different skill levels as they get older.
