For them it works best as a stand up scooter. they love riding up and down the street with my dog chasing them. As for ease of conversion from stand to sit, an adult with strong hands has to do it. the hinge and the weight of the sections can make it dangerous for little fingers. Charge time is good. There's no way an eight-year-old can do this on their own. It does require a little bit of assembly when you get it home. I'm trying to switch it from a seated bike to a scooter or vice versa was confusing. The instructions were very vague and there wasn't any sort of reference for me online. I had to figure it out on my own. When switching it from the standing position to a seated position, I have to mess with the height of the handlebars because there is a retractable button that gets in the way and I have to push that in then pull the seat up then push the handlebars back. Also, this thing is really heavy. It's a little concerning that my son could all over and this thing fall on top of him and he not be able to get up or it hurt his leg. I really don't think it is appropriate for his age. Definitely maybe more of a preteen type bike. He is 8 almost 9 and has had the typical scooters but when he saw this he went nuts. He immediately jumped on and with a minimal adjustment period was scooting around having a good old time. He's used the seat once or twice but he prefers standing up and loves visiting friends in the neighborhood. The charge lasts for quite a while so he's happy with that. My 8 year old has had a blast with it. It's so unique and innovative. We love that it's powered because it's so much more fun to ride. As if that wasn't enough, but it also converts into a bike. She can ride, she can scooter and it's so much fun. Converting from bike to scooter and vice versa is so easy too. Simply pop the seat u or down and you're ready to go. The battery life is great too. It says it can go up to 6 miles before having to recharge. She's rode it like 8 times and for a pretty good while, yet it still has good battery life.
