The set is easy to construct and then to reconfigure as you want. My older 8 yo daughter was able to take apart and rebuild the track, but not to much my 4 and 5 year old as easily. The set is very versatile and has a variety of what to do. My older daughter was able to understand the track and train talking and get a hang of how and when to use the button and how to turn on/off, my 4 yo not as much and did have trouble with just that part (it saying goodbye) but others was perfect. Otherwise, very fun. It was easy to snap together and follow the directions. I wish there was on off switch for both Thomas and the sound box attached.to cranky as they kept getting set off as I was putting things together. We also tried a train from my son's wooden track and they were also able to go on this track which is nice since sister wanted to play as well. It is cool that cranky and Thomas have conversations back and forth with each other. Also there is a red lever you can pull to stop Thomas so you can grab the cargo he is carrying with cranky. Overall this is a fun track even for some older kids.
