The tracks were easy enough for him to put together by himself although he did need a little help to get the circle complete. I would recommend getting other sets to add to this one to make a longer path for the trains to keep the child engaged.
The crane is a fun addition to the set and my son loved putting cargo in and out of the cart.</span>

One of the best features is its compatibility with other Thomas trains and track pieces. The track pieces are easy enough for a toddler to put together and take apart to create their own design.
One disappointing feature is the crane and its design. Based on where it attaches to the tracks, the placement of the crane only allows the claw to be able to grab items from the track or train cars from 2 distinct spots. It's almost as if the crane should be a standalone piece from the track instead of attaching to it. Even with this flaw, my son still enjoyed playing with it.</span>
