He holds it like a real guitar and strums the light up nose of Elmo. He sings along with the songs that it plays, which are Row Your Boat and an Elmo version of You Are My Sunshine. It has three different settings that make it do different things. It has an on, off, and trial switch on the back. There are three Sesame Street characters where the guitar strings are supposed to be that do different things when pressed, and below them a big button where you would normally strum the strings of the guitar.
