It does hurt to get hit with the darts so I would just be cautious around young kids. For older children, this is a ton of fun. My 14 year old was excited to have the ergonomic grips and having the power to knock over empty soda cans used as targets. We are a big nerf gun family and so far this is on the top of our list. It has the shoulder bump to reduce kick back.</span>
