A timeless classic for all medieval fans.
I am so grateful for LEGO to rekindle a medieval line through the creator three in one. The model is finely built and can be quite expressive in the face with all the moving parts, but please do understand its legs are pose-able but not many positions are functional to balance, but it can grip around things to perch on them for display action. How to improve on success: As great as it is I thought as a play element having a dragon slayer knight on a horse and princess mini figure would have really completed this story line. If that is too much then even just a single Lions knight would have gone a long way for my best impressions. Which is the reason for the 4 on the overall score as a stand alone set the dragon does not have context for adventure or play. I do hope that a similar set will happen with a new molded dragon as well as some play features. As much as I like this model also would like to have a smaller dragon with a more modern mold as part of a legacy collection. It also would have been cool as a 3 in 1 to design to have an alternative build with the wings in a static closed position close to the body or half bent/ flapping. giving more options than spreading even if it takes a big rebuild. The other Alt builds I did not make but they do look good too. There seems to be a good amount and type of parts in this for those who make mocs. The greens can be hard get and there are lots of snot and big ball joints. The only problem is, its not a model that I want to take apart. A sure classic to me! this is a timeless set and a really good LEGO dragon.

This set is a grate addition to the previously peaceful medieval village set. The dragon set is perfectly sitting on the blacksmith house overlooking village. It is fun to play with my kid, with these sets, it brings back old memories while we are making new ones.

I Was Pleasantly Surprised
I will start with my two biggest negatives:
1) It needed fire elements for both the dragon and phoenix builds, and maybe some of the clear-blue bricks to make a small water element for the sea serpent!
2) Some of the pieces could have been different or better utilized. It seemed like LEGO made a couple of choices to increase the piece count.
This set was really cool. I am not one to build and take apart my LEGO sets and then rebuild them, but all three builds in this set were appealing.
I started with the sea serpent, as I thought that would be my least favourite, but the final product turned out to be my favourite. It was the most solid and sturdy build of the three, and I loved the iridescent eyes! It was fun to pose and will pair nicely with my nautical sets. I did find some of the instructions to be unnecessarily out of order. For example, adding a piece of the body segment and the finishing green pieces, only to go back several steps later/near the end of the build, to add another of the finishing pieces for the scales, when adding it earlier would not have impeded the building. The serpent body was very compact and well designed for durable play or in case of accidental droppage to not "shatter" as some sets do. I didn't like that one side of the tail was left essentially unfinished, whereas the other had green pieces covering the red structural pieces. This is a minor negative for me.
The phoenix came next, and I really enjoyed building the base and the wings. I had a bit of a tricky time getting the base to stay firmly together, and it could have used a couple more overlapping pieces to firmly lock the structure together, like the serpent's body was built. The perch was a great touch, though. I found the phoenix' wings to be very relaxing to work on and I liked it much better than I thought I would from viewing the box photos.
The dragon came last. This set is supposed to be built first, as its instructions are listed bag-by-bag. I used the leftover box insert from a LEGO advent piece to sort everything by colour and size, which made the build go so much faster than trying to keep the parts organized by bag.
I thought it would be my least favourite, but I really like it! It comes with a really cool side build of a mini hoard with gold and a treasure chest containing a couple of gems. I like how the joints and body parts snap together firmly so that they are almost difficult to take apart (the middle claws are easy to detach, though). I wish that the body was a bit more posable, but it can still be posed dynamically, and the horns and spikes are great touches. I wish that it had more teeth and detail around the mouth like the setpent had.
My biggest negative for the dragon is that it looks very mechanical or robotic due to the colours and piece choices for joints and other details. It needs fire! I also want to change out the eyes to use the iridescent ones from the serpent build. I like the choice of the pale green colour used for the dragon's gullet and inner neck scales. That is a surprising detail.
The dragon is the most playful and playable creature. I like adjusting the wings and appendages and making it fly and guard its treasure.
The wings for both the dragon and phoenix have a sturdy design.
Overall, this is a really enjoyable fantasy set. I spent a few hours building each of the options. The serpent took the longest to deconstruct.
