It uses batteries, so no cord to worry about. The texture is actuall rexture, not just print. There is an automatic button on the remote which will cycle through moon phases about every 5 seconds. It tImes offafter about 45 minutes. Where we hvae it mounted, full moon is not beight enough to read by, but the first waxing phase is a good night light setting. All 3 kids love it, and weve been i.oressed with thr quality son far. It is essentially a night light for them and we especially love that it turns itself off after a while.
