If there's one thing Mare Barrow knows, it's that she's different.

Her blood is red-the color of the common folk, the color of revolution-but that is at odds with her Silver ability: the power to control lightning, that made her a glorified prisoner in the Silver court. But there is something about her power that Mare doesn't yet know. And as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince-the friend-who utterly betrayed her, she uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

In her attempts to thwart Maven, now king, in his quest for power, Mare sets out to find and recruit other hybrid Red-and-Silver fighters. Together with allies old and new, she crisscrosses the territories, attempting to stay one step ahead of a vengeful tyrant king. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming the monster she and so many others are trying to defeat. Once more she finds herself caught between two worlds, and the two twisted halves of her soul.

The sweeping next installment in the Red Queen series pits Mare and her army against the blood-segregated world they've always known, and Mare against the yearnings of her heart. She vows not to get too close to those she loves. Because no matter the color of their blood, whoever bleeds can be killed.
