I think it's really cute and functions really well for a kid toy. My son doesn't play with it all that often though, sadly, but I think I might have missed his excavator fascination phase by a few weeks. Maybe if I'd had it a few weeks before it would have been a bigger hit. The pieces move, and they love to scoop up rocks and drive them around! It is the perfect size to carry with us to the playground, and to play with in the car as we are driving. We took it to the beach and they loved digging holes with the bucket. It seems to be very heavy duty, unlike others we've had, and held up well to the harder sand. They both loved the extensions where they could place their fingers to make it move. He uses the bucket to pick up snacks and dump it in a bowl and then pick it up again. Works well digging up a pile of sand too!
