If you fill the base with water there is a good chance the water may not stay in the base, that is why we recommend sand for the base.

Can a 27.5&rdquo; Spalding Beginner Ball fit on the hoop? My son is 5 years old and teaching him to shoot and dribble. I think this hoop is perfect for him, just wondering if his ball fits the hoop.

Yes, it will fit through the hoop but not the net. I bought a new net at Canadian Tire for $10, and a size 5 ball (27.5 circumference) ball fits through no problem. HOWEVER, the heavier ball causes the breakaway rim to constantly fall down. The kids seem happy putting it back up after every shot, but I&rsquo;m going &nbsp;to try to figure out a DIY fix for it.&nbsp;
