The baby monitor needs to be plugged into the adapter to operate and the parent unit needs to be plugged into the adapter to charge. The parent unit is cordless.

All Baby Monitory camera's are A/C wall adapter powered 100% of the time. Only the Parent units have the rechargeable batteries. This is to allow you to roam with the Parent unit, as the camera is fixed in 1 spot and does not roam. Also, the Camera is on and monitoring all the time, while the Parent unit can be set to Sound Activation mode while on battery power, conserving battery life.

Yes, all our WiFi monitors are in fact Dual Mode. They ship in the box with WiFi Dissabled, and will work only on a closed loop 2.4GHz Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) between the Parent LCD and the Camera. You have to Enable WiFi manually on the Parent unit via the menu, and then set-up the online account with your unique password by downloading the free MyVtech App from the App Store before WiFi will work. After setting up WiFi, you can toggle it On/Off at will from the Parent unit, so you decide when you want the App users who are accessing via the Internet on their smart devices (phone tablet, etc) to be able to see the stream, or when it's Dissabled for them.
