I tried to take it apart and rebuild it a couple times, but nothing helped. However, after letting it sit for a few months, I think maybe the connections have set more solidly and it works almost every time. The mid-'70s styling reminds me of the radio I had when I was a kid (although mine was black). I've been able to fool a couple friends with my phone playing inside. Especially with the feature that allows your phone to be utilized, which I have to give kudos to the designers for this. It also is well done as it's neither too heavy, nor too light. The overall look is great and reminds you of the old transistor radios from years ago. The sound brick with the audio clips was a fun extra with the radio, and the ability to pop my phone in and use it as a radio to play music is an added bonus. It looks great displayed on your shelf too. It would have been great, however, that in addition to the sound brick if there was a blue tooth compatible brick that you could add to the set (or included even better) that you could just play music remotely through the device. I saw one person put their echo dot devise inside theirs and I love that idea as well.
