WOW! Love this build. A few unexpected small challenges and I was impressed I got it all right. The instructions were very specific step by step. I was a afraid to get the mechanics wrong, but the radio sound worked! Putting in the sound block was a bit challenging and at first it didn't seem to work. But it did. And the cel phone holder, super!

My daughter received this as a birthday gift (not from me), and I was really excited for her about it. As a professional engineer myself with teenage daughters thinking about careers, possibly in STEM, I think it is such a disappointing missed opportunity by Lego that this isn't a functional radio (even a retro FM/AM one) or bluetooth speaker, but just plays a few naff pre-recorded samples. Furthermore, apart from some small print, this isn't at all clear from the marketing.

Radio has build issues
I do like how it turned out but it did need some alterations. The directions were good except for a few illustration angles. The build itself had two major issues. The first was the left knob, the power knob. After I put it together the first time the knob fell out of place and I had to tear the whole thing apart to fix it. Warning ⚠️ do not put in the front panel until it is functioning correctly. It is impossible to remove without the whole thing coming apart. I found that if added a bit more support to the knob and take a few peices out that got in the way of that, it worked well. They were not necessary to the esthetic and made it not fall apart after the first couple of uses. The second part is the right side panel. It is impossible to get it to lay flat. The little red peice with the white stick (pictured) that is made for it to stay on makes it bow out and looks terrible. The only way I found it to work was when I took the red piece out entirely. Now it looks great and functions the way it is meant to. Took me ripping it apart two or three times to get it right which was frustrating. But all in all I like it.

I was apprehensive about buying this set. I am of the generation when transistor radios first came out. It was a big deal. This set has been a blast. It was easy an easy build and engineered to handle my cell phone beautifully. Yes, the little sound module works OK. But the big surprise is how much fun it it to play and listen to my song list from my cell phone!. It's easy to manipulate the operation of my phone through the flexible mount in the rear of the set. It sounds so well that I am actually listening to it while I am writing this review. It's a great set and a lot of fun. Get it and enjoy it!

The overall build is very fragile when complete. The sides have very few contact points and easily separate if you hold it while playing with the dial. Putting a phone in really causes small part to fall off. The sound brick is fun, but when you have it "on" the dial pushing it requires effort eliminating the soft feel of "tuning". I've check the instruction and my build but see no errors.

Tuner Function
I am a fairly new builder and hobbyist of LEGO (had them as a kid growing up).
The work instructions were good but at times not clear too me. Personally when it came to the turner and on off knobs steps that's when the sound brick should have been placed in the model. I understand saving it for the last step for the reveal. However there is a problem to that. When i did the steps for the knobs and the little function the knobs worked great. Cut to the end when turning the turner after the placing the sound block in and nothing was happening.I couldn't see if the function was working why? Everything was closed up! Removing the back paneled did nothing. I had to break apart the sides to get the pins out to look at the function (II rebuilt it and before closing it all up again put the sound brick in and it worked. That's when i noticed that the function and the tuner knob was a hard turn. I thought i did something wrong again but after watching other reviews and reading comments from other sites about this build that that the tuner function and turn is supposed to feel like that (almost forcing the 3 balls to turn to push the pc into the sound brck and people all had problems with the function not working) My opinion the complete function should be done together with the sound brick while the front was still open so you can see !) it works of course 2)your not taking a lot of pcs off to get to it. Once the 4 pins are in for the speaker/grill pc you couldn't see anything.
I think the pcs/steps for the putting your phone in there was not needed as this is something that did not draw me into this pc.

Really enjoyed the build on this radio and after a few small tweaks the radio sounds worked like a charm. I agree with others that at times the pieces feel like they are bending a bit as you build but at the end of the day it holds together. This is not a set you want to slam around or abuse much. Adding your phone into the back of the radio works well and the radio pre programmed sounds are loud and clear enough. I would recommend this for kids or adults who have a little experience building Lego as the middle of the build can get a tiny technical but nothing a seasoned builder couldn’t handle. It looks fine on my shelf and while I might not play with it as much as I first thought I am glad to have made the purchase.

Infuriating, yet pleasing build.
This has to have been the most infuriating build I've ever done.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 - seriously, so many grey pieces of varying shades on a grey background? Not helpful! Couldn't find my tablet to use the builder app, so was stuck with it. Also a few errors. Like the antenna needing 8 pieces when there were only 7, and the 8th piece would have only made the antenna too long anyway.
𝗦𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀! Luckily I have a large jar full of spare small pieces from previous builds, and the missing ones were mostly internal so colour didn't matter. If not for the jar I wouldn't have got past bag 1 without having to order pieces, and again at bag 3, then bag 4... you get the idea.
𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲! I love it! As a fan of what tech I grew up with (now called "retrotech") it's bordering on perfect. I love that it can be used as a speaker box for my phone. I do feel a mod is in order to make it a functional Bluetooth speaker. That would really take it to the next level.
So, Lego. I've got the turntable. I've got the Walkman (itself was a fun little build). I've got the Polaroid camera. I've got the 3-in-1 camera coming for my birthday, and I've got this... 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁?

I have run into the, from what I have seen from other builders, common issue of my sound not working. I am going to go back and hope I don’t have too much of a rebuild to do to fix it

Lego Icons Retro Radio 10334 18+
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a lovely set to build but not the easiest to follow guidebook does Miss steps out and tricky to get the sound brick working? Got quite frustrated at times. The end result is a cool looking build that has a working dials and a movable handle aerial and novelty short sound element. All pieces were present and some spares as usual booklet has easy to follow visuals and some radio history facts for added value opening the back and slotting in my own phone seems a little unnecessary easier just to prop it up behind same effect. The Lego seems a little cheaper than previous builds and hard to connect together at times the packaging for the bricks is now paper which is better than plastic, but the whole set is plastic so not going to save the planet overall a good set and looks nice to leave as an ornament in the home.

Frustrating at times but worth it.
Very cute build. I’m very happy I finally purchased it, after having it on my wish list for a long time. It was frustrating at times trying to get certain components to fit together and work, but it all came together in the end. It’s very cool with the sound brick, and option to put your phone or a blue tooth speaker. I love this little build!! Get it before it’s too late.
