It has the ability to &quot;breathe&quot; by raising and lowering the stomach, the stomach can light up, there is a variety of sound choices ranging from music to a heartbeat. The fur is very soft and my son loves to feel it. This product is very similar to the Sooth 'n Snuggle Otter we have tried. It does seem to use batteries faster than the otter did though. Within 2 weeks of very moderate use the batteries died. The otter received far more use on a set of batteries. The most important part of this product is how babies react though. My 2 month old likes it, although it is not a need for him to sleep. Mostly he likes the feel of the fur and the heartbeat sound. This seems to be a soothing sound machine for him. It is pretty big, so it definitely can be felt by the baby, even if they move around in bed. My daughter is almost 12 months and is interested in it, but we haven&rsquo;t relied on it to help her go to sleep. Her hands are also in a sleep sack still, so she can&rsquo;t touch it when going to bed. All that being said, I am looking forward to using this more as she grows. It has a lot of options to choose from with changing the color of the light, to the sounds it plays, to timers. It is almost constantly &ldquo;breathing&rdquo;, so I would think that would be comforting to a baby or child.
