You can arrange the piano and play bar in different configurations so that it grows with your child from a baby through toddlerhood and provides a different experience for your growing child depending on how it is set up. The mat is nicely cushioned for young babies and I recall how VERY entertaining it was for my baby to lay on his back and reach for the toys and kick at the piano keys to hear sounds. It was great for developing his motor skills and eye-hand coordination, and provided appropriate sensory development. One great feature is being able to adjust the toys on the bar so that it is more/less stimulating. Being black and white, it is extra appealing to infants! My 20 month old loves to play with the piano, and it is easy for him to carry around. When the songs on the piano play, it also lights up. Three different modes on the piano allow different sounds and songs, including different animals and instruments. The songs are catchy and cute and my son sings along and repeats them. This play mat has held up well to regular play and use. (Number 4 is carrying the piano around and my 6 month old isn't there yet.) Assembly was super easy. The hardest part was connecting the pieces of the legs - the pictures on the instructions were okay, but what helped was when I figured out each piece was labeled with either a &quot;R&quot; or &quot;L&quot;. From there everything took less than 5 minutes to fully assemble. The piano very smoothly and easily screws in and you can easily change the angle for their feet to kick while laying on the floor or for sitting. An added bonus is that my Boppy pillow fit under the piano, so my supported sitter can already use this feature! The arch also easily detaches and can be moved above the piano for added entertainment while sitting. It only took me a minute (literally!) to change the angle of the piano and move the arch above the piano. Super easy! Other key things: there are 4 places to attach toys on the arch and 3 places on the mat (for tummy time). The mirror is good quality and isn't distorted. The piano is pretty sensitive so little hands can easily enjoy it. The black keys are just for show - only the large white keys make noise. There are 2 volume settings for the piano - loud and soft - and the loud isn't overly loud. There are 3 stages for the piano, plus a piano setting. Stage 1 plays continuous music, although it still plays individual notes when baby kicks/hits keys. Stage 2 states the animal, followed by that animal's noise, or the musical instrument the animal is holding, followed by a few notes played by that instrument. To change the topic, you press the same key twice in a row. Stage 3 is colors, shapes, and numbers. Each color and shape is followed by a few notes, but the numbers are sung without music. Unlike other Fisher Price musical instruments, it doesn't count up to that number; it only states the number. To change topics you simply press the same key twice in a row. The piano setting works like a piano - it plays a single note when a key is pressed. Overall, my baby loves this! She is 6 months old, so she really enjoys supported sitting time playing the piano! The music and lights really hold her attention. Plus having the other toys above the piano encourages her to reach without pushing her balance too much. Infants who may not even be rolling over can kick the keys with their feet with the piano positioned up and down, while toddlers can sit at it and play in typical keyboard/piano position with the piano sitting flat. My baby was older when we got this, so I cannot speak to its merit as an infant tummy time mat. The age range is up to 36 months, however, and my young toddler (12 months) still enjoys it. He likes having the piano in sitting mode and also carrying it around and using it on its own. We like the songs and the light up keys as well. We picked this up in Blue but it also comes in Pink. The gym is set to play in 4 stages as your baby grows but my 8 month old loves it in stage 3 as a sit or crawl and play toy! It wipes down easy for all those drool spills and is super portable for on the go fun, like the coming holidays. I'm also a huge fan of the lights and sound to keep baby entertained.
