Elizabeth Tower is the official name of the tower in which Big Ben is located. Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower. It was completed in 1859. Upon completion, it was the largest four-faced chiming clock and the third-tallest free-standing clock tower in the world. The Big Ben Clock is used to ring in the New Year in London and is the rallying point for the New Year's celebration of the entire country of England. It has become a symbol of London and the United Kingdom. The main bell, officially known as the Great Bell but better known as Big Ben, is the largest bell in the tower.
