The quality is solid and we haven't had any issues with pieces breaking, etc. She regularly plays with the horse without the doll, but when she does use the doll, I personally have a complaint: the scale of doll to horse is way out of proportion. This would be like a six foot tall adult riding a Shetland pony. She also likes that the Barbie has knees that bend so her Barbie can ride the horse. Bendable knees allow the Barbie to sit on the horse unassisted. My daughter does not like the fact that the Barbie&rsquo;s hot pink pants are painted on. This doesn&rsquo;t allow her to have her Barbie dress in other outfits without the hot pink pants. As a parent taking it out of the package, the plastic piece that held the horse&rsquo;s mane down was difficult to remove. Barbie is equipped with riding boots and a pink helmet to safely enjoy her time with her equine friend. I love that she is able to sit securely and independently in the saddle after placing her boots in the stirrups and her hands in the reins. Barbie&rsquo;s legs and feet are bright pink (matching the bridle and reins). Her hip and knee joints are much more flexible than some other Barbie versions which makes it possible for her to sit in the saddle so easily. The horse is a little small compared to Barbie&rsquo;s height, but not too noticeably, and it makes storing it a bit easier. She loved that the backdrop was removable for future play. As parents, we liked that it didn&rsquo;t come with too many accessories so it was perfect for her age group, many of her past toys had tiny accessories that would get lost. I will say that most of the horses she has to date are &quot;vintage&quot; models and this was the first recent addition to the stable. She was quite pleased with this horse and with the barbie doll. The colors were appealing and she enjoyed the accessories. The brushable main and tail of the horse were nice. I do find this toy was enjoyed greatly by our young barbie fan. I will admit as an adult to being somewhat disappointed that this model horse feels cheaper compared to the older ones. The hollowed sections in the horses legs are not aesthetically pleasing. Did the six year old care though? Not at all! The horse is absolutely beautiful. It's difficult to see in the pictures, but the horse is speckled and it looks great. The horse is well made, and we had no difficulty getting it to stand on its own, with or without Barbie on its back. Barbie's knees bend, which makes it easier to place her on the horse. My daughter didn't mind that the pants are painted on, and neither did I -- one less article of clothing to struggle with or lose! It's a small detail, but I appreciate that a helmet is included in this set because it encourages safety. I'm going to buy another set for my niece because she requested it for her birthday after playing with it at our house. My oldest one loves to play with the horse's hair and brush it. My youngest loves to have the Barbie ride the horse and make horse sounds. There aren't a ton of small pieces which I like because my younger daughter can safely play with it and there are less things to get lost. But there aren't many accessories for brushing the horse's hair or pretending to care for the horse so unless you have other sets that include those types of things, it's not overly accessorized to extend play options. The horse is really cool, his color and the little specks are adorable, love the colors used for both of them, the clothes and the accessories are very cute. The packaging is very attractive, you can see the little barn in the back and the grass, its perfect to attract the imagination of kids, mine loved that and the horse. The graphics are really cute and definitely match the toys perfectly! The things i don&rsquo;t like are 1.The pants are painted on the legs, which i guess helps if your kid loses their clothes all the time but i would have liked it better if it had real pants. 2.To put the legs on the saddle you have to force the part where the feet go to twist but maybe that could brake it in the long run if you kid is rough on toys, it would have been nice if they were going the other way. 3.Her arms are not articulated, they still work good enough to hold the reigns but it would have beet better to be able to place the hands in a desired position. Overall for the price it is a very cute toy, it is big enough for a nice gift and not too complicated to unbox or to play with. The doll has the beautiful 2011 &quot;Summer&quot; face sculpt and straight raven hair that is easily managed. The doll articulates at the neck, shoulders, hips and knees. The horse has no articulation. The doll's legs are flexible enough at the hips that it is able to sit on the horse. All joints hold firmly, but were still easy enough for my daughter to move. As a Barbie collector myself, I am jealous of the quilted back boots. The only minor things I personally did not like about the doll were the permanent, sculpted pants and the top has no closure, making it more complicated for little hands to redress the doll.
